simply put, fantastic issue. I'm not sold on the other relaunched titles, but this one is nailing it, IMO.
"What the industry desperately needs is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling—in a word, entertainment. People used to love the characters and care desperately about what happened to them. That’s seldom true these days" -- Jim Shooter(2003)

It's good to see some time taken to delve deep into characters. It's easy to say that this was all about Flamingo, but that is a disservice. We learned a little more about all the renegades in this issue. It seems pretty clear by now that Faith is going to be the one to hold the team together in times of difficulty. Kris has vision to lead the team, but lacks the personality to make it cohesive. While I appreciated getting to know the characters a little better, I was disappointed that the overall story didn't move forward appreciably. I hope this is not repeated when Torque is introduced next month. Certainly these are rich characters that deserve their moments, but not at the expense of storytelling. While I enjoyed this issue overall, I'm hoping for better next time around.
In my opinion is implied in every post. Please make an effort to remember that.
Well, I expect something similar next month with Torque. Some minimal plot development as they continue to bring the team together.
The following issue focuses on Faith, but seeing as she will have been around for about 6 issues by then, I expect something major that will lead into Harbinger Wars.
Lets not forget the first few pages showed some repercussions to the last issue between Harada and PRS, as well as the tidbit that Harada has moles inside PRS.
VALIANT, Saga, Manhattan Projects, Locke & Key, Hawkeye, Young Avengers.
I believe Dysart said the Renagades arc was one that focused on character.
So far with 6 & 7 we've seen some pretty shocking behaviour from Kris and Charlene (bank robbing, arson, murder) and I imagine Torque will have baggage of his own. Pete's sketchy behaviour (drug abuse, rape) has been established since issue 1.
As issue 9 is the Faith issue, I can see this being the one where she finally puts her foot down about all the crazy shit going on around her, up until now she has been very happy go lucky and just going along with everything but eventually the weight of all this has to get to her.
There's nothing scarier than seeing a mild mannered good natured person finally lose it. I think she will be the one to confront the rest about their actions and in doing so gain new respect from them and further develop as a character.
The Renegades all seem like broken people, Faith will be the one to "fix" them.
The last issue or two had seemed low-key, but we have ramped back up with this issue. Loved it. Flamingo gets a real world upgrade.
Wow, I just realized I've yet to comment on this issue, which is strange because it was so damn good. I really like Flamingo, she's sexy, has great powers, and is now showing us how strong she can be with what she did to her scumbag boyfriend/pimp and that's pretty damn awesome. What a great little team we've started to assemble here, I can't wait to see where it's all going and om wha kinds of adventures they'll eventually embark on after this gathering is complete.
"Freedom fire...", love it!
