The most recent hulk book where he wasn't the bestial, "HULK SMASH" rendition; what were its sales like? Unimpressive? Failing? I don't know, but i bet so. And that would likely be your answer.

There are far too many of those types of characters as it is. I don't particularly care about that version of the Hulk as he leaves me cold. My favorite era of the Hulk was the 70's and early 80's version that became the most popular for the very reason of his uniqueness. What made this child-like version interesting was how he contrasted against the well-adjusted yuppies in the Avengers and X-Men, or the various groups of angsty teen heroes. Variety is the spice of life, as they say.

I'm ready to give up on the Indestructible Hulk book.
It's a good Banner comic, but the Hulk plays almost no role at all and for no apparant reason seems to have regressed to a mindless savage state. And it's not even that I mind a savage mindless Hulk per se, but
    1) I'd like there to be an in-story reason for it, and not just: new writer, new Hulk
& 2) If he's savage he should be a threat to everyone like he was in Mantlo's run

Now the Hulk is just a weapon. SHIELD points at a target and Banner fires the Hulk at it.
I have no interest in reading a book about Banner and his green gun

You really shouldn't be quoting that than because it's hilariously melodramatic and stupid. Not truthful. For example, anyone with a brain should be very skeptical of the idea that the movies attract new fans considering that in the long history of comic book movies there is no convincing evidence of any meaningful connection at all.

I can only speak for myself here but i had always been interested in Superheroes and that was mainly through tv and games but it was the films that finally gave me the push to get into comics.

    Not it wasn't.

And what makes the Hulk unique is his relationship with Banner, which has more depth when it's the Hulk is Gravage. Besides, the Hulk in Indestructible isn't the child like Hulk anyway, but the Silent Hulk. Mark Waid also said that he won't have Hulk talking like cookie monster.

So we aren't going to have the Child-like Hulk in the Hulk book.

Because this is the first time he's gone from smart to dumb ever?
Relax, it's quite cyclical, just wait a bit and he'll be smart for a little while again.
