Yeah a concept that has fascinated the world for thousands of years is stupid. Come on its a foundation of myth! Read a book!

In my head, I've got this really circular, time-travely, Phoenix/chicken-or-the-egg? thing that I think fits in with the stories that have come before and is plausible and silly enough at the same time to make for a good comic book concept.

Rachel and the Phoenix are attuned due to Rachel's heritage. It's her mommy's spirit, so it comes naturally to her.
Sorry Brevoort, Alonso and Lowe, but Jean Grey is a classic character. She'll outlive you regardless. :)

Think I'm gonna become an X-Men writer, explicitly reveal that the Phoenix is a piece of Jean's mind and then retire.
Teen!Jean's presence is going to make the Phoenix seek out Feron?

As myth, it's great. As a reoccuring concept in a superhero comic, all it does is render one speciifc character all-powerful, evil or dead repeatedly. And it's far too powerful to be used as anything but a threat in said superhero concept. If it's not entirely stupid, then what the concept needs is one heck of a revamp.

So... I take it you don't like the Spectre or Parrallax then?

It pretty much describes most super heroes.
