It's not just the fact that they rectoned it away. It's the fact that we SAW ET happen in NG #1 and now they go and contradict it. People might say they took it out to shrink the timeline, but now the timeline is a complete mess. If I have to read a comic from issue 1-15 and get massive retcons so close, I don't know what the HELL DC's editorial is up to! They need to get their s**t together!

Coast City can easily be destroyed by someone else though.... as said, its possible Emerald Twilight DID happen but not in the way we know it. Things like the Cyborg Superman, Mongul and other elements are likely written out.

We saw Emerald Twilight in NG #1? Really? I thought we just saw a little blue guy give Kyle a ring.

Don't ever get attached to any character, any concept, any story. They all can and will get retconned away at someone's whim. If they can disregard every story Jerry Siegel ever wrote for Superman, they can disregard Ron Marz Green Lantern stories.

Just take the stories as they come and like what you like. DC has no canon.

But did Hal do that? Are those Guardians now alive? As I've been saying, we don't have enough information either way that it did or didn't happen. Or if these scenes are a totally new event or the reworking of Emerald Twilight. Seems you're jumping the gun and like so many on these boards you don't like it even before you know what it is. Do I have that right?

Well Emerald Twilight Event was basically the destruction of everyone and everything GL besides Ganthet. He says your sacrifice will not be in vain and that he is the last of the Guardians. The rest are OBVIOUSLY dead. The battery is ruined. It doesn't matter if it's a totally new event, it has done the same damage that Emerald Twilight did. Thus it is the "new" Emerald Twilight. THAT is assuming that ET was suppose to be changed from it's original story line. And IF ET AND this new event both exists, you mean to tell me that there were 2 mass wipe outs of the Green Lantern Corps? And this event, ET or not, obviously happened since we see it. Right there. In the pages.

    Logic.

Yeah, it's worth noting that the power battery isn't completely destroyed in that image.

It seems that Hal's time as Parallax was brief, much like we've seen lately when a power entity overtakes someone. It usually lasts minutes to hours. Hal was taken over by Parallax and killed the guardians. Ganthet survives, giving Kyle Hal's old ring. Kyle and Hal fought on earth, Hal is freed by the rookie Kyle.

Kyle then visits Oa, which is in repair. Sayd is the first guardian Ganthet restores and they are working to restore the other Guardians while most of the corps members have been brought back. Kyle returns to earth and gets his new costume, then Alex is killed. Kyle has a sort of mental crisis, becomes Ion for a bit and Hal resumes his role.

    Then into Sinestro War.

I believe Coast City still was devastated in some way. It is too instrumental in Blackest Night to be ignored.

You just have to chop out anything involving Jade and Alan Scott for sure. That cuts out enough of Kyle's history to shorten it to 2 years and fit into the timeline.

This was an obvious continuity mistake, in that Bedard and/or the artist forgot what was established in the first issue: All Guardians but Ganthet were dead and Kyle got the last Green Lantern ring. However, I'm sure this is the directive that DiDio/Lee/Johns/Harras are pushing now, and, much like all references to the Titans and Tim Drake as Robin in those early issues, it will be swept under the rug.

To which I cry foul. My personal fanwank is that the flashback in #15 took place right after Rebirth, with Kyle agreeing to do some basic GLC training that he never formally took part of. As such, he put on the trainee uniform and was playing dumb with Ganthet, in a "ha ha, I'm such a newbie" manner.

The red power battery actually looked worse and I think we still have a Red Lantern Corps.
