Shelly Bond Promoted to Executive Editor of Vertigo
Shelly Bond has been named Executive Editor of DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, filling the vacancy left by the departing Karen Berger. Will Dennis has been promoted to Group Editor, and Mark Doyle to Editor.
Very good to hear. Just look at that list of books that Shelly has edited and it's clear that she's one of the greatest coordinators of talent in comics today. It would have been a travesty and an insult if DC brought in an outsider to head the Vertigo stable.
Great news indeed - all these editors are more than deserving of their promotions. I just wish DC Entertainment would back off and let them do the great job that they should rightly be able to do with the imprint.
That's what made the most sense. Shelly's been there the longest and has an enormous amount of contacts as well as great relationships with Vertigo creators like Peter Milligan, Grant Morrison, and Steve Seagle, plus, y'know, Phil Bond. They also needed to keep Will Dennis around as he's been as major force in recruiting talent and developing projects over the past half-decade.
While this really isn't a surprise by any means - Bond being the logical choice and all - I have to admit part of me was expecting (dreading?) some choice from left field that would've left us all scratching our heads. Glad that didn't happen!
