Wesley Willis used to tell his fans and audience to say "rock" and say "roll"...it sounded like rah and roh...

and the subway, eat fresh part is from the end of his songs which usually feature that, also insure one an insurance superstore, among other businesses...

joyrides and hellrides were how he described riding the bus...

edit: i see slvn covered the say "rah" part...

here's the link to an interesting Wesley Willis documentary on youtube...

This might be wacky, but to me, it's almost as if the original line was "Sub Way" and was changed. I say this because his next line is "Eat Fresh".

And yes, that is the food chain Subway's marketing line, "Subway. Eat Fresh".

But "subway" would certainly work with reference to the joyrides/hellrides as well.

Liked this issue. Good for Wonder Woman telling Lennox that she allowed him some control over her. Liked Hephaestus asking, "will you hold your arms out?", Wonder Woman "What for?" Hephaestus "My amusement". Can't wait to see Hera and Zola take a stroll through New York; with Zola, this could get very interesting for Hera, but she needs those new type of experiences. But, please reveal Athena soon. Like Wonder Woman making it known to Orion that she has Lennox's back. Couldn't see Wonder Woman putting her boots on from bare feet?

    This issue was great.

We need a backup for this book : Zola and Hera in the Big City. It would be fantastic. Great art from Chiang as usual.

I just love it when creators put in pop culture icons as heroes and villains. Like Stephanie Brown whupping Madonna's ass.

So now we have the guy from Uncharted as Eros, Wesley Willis as Milan, and Brian Azzarello as Ares.

I wonder if these swords can harm a Kryptonian. In Kingdom Come, the Sword of Hephaestus was able to cut Superman and cleave the electrons from an atom.

Alas, my opinions remain stable from issue to issue ;)

Love the characterizations, enjoy the supporting cast, love the artwork, but not enough Diana. I am resigned to this ;)

It's just kinda hard as a WW fan to see that the big excitement (both in the way it came across in an interview or two with Azzarello and with fan reaction) isn't Diana and what she's doing but in the story of the new gods and Orion.

As to adding the swords, I shall put forth a guess - Hephaestus is trying to give her reasons to keep them on. If she takes them off, she loses the addition(s) he adds, so he's trying to discourage 'god mode' for some reason?

    Just a guess.

Honestly, as cool as I think the Orion/New Gods angle is, its not my personal favorite aspect of this new arc. Wonder Woman and her role in the prophecy, and surprisingly Hera are intriguing me the most. Lennox just got a lot more interesting too, seems he has a darker, the ends justify the means side.

I liked the tinkering that Heph did with the bracelets. I'm kinda meh on the design of the swords, but its another very cool ability. But with some cool new stuff under her belt now, I think its time to give some love to some old ones. I want the lasso to start becoming a factor.

Seriously. I thoroughly enjoyed this issue - Orion's arrival, Milan, the hilariously odd couple that is Zola and Hera (Hera is growing on me; much like Strife, I think), the Firstborn - but this is Diana's book and I want more Diana. She was fabulous in it, the bits we saw of her - her compassion, her occasional temper, her wicked sense of humour (room service for Hera, ahaha), her stubborn defense of Lennox - but I want, no, I DEMAND more. /throws tantrum
    Agreed.

I liked how she used her diplomat skills on Hera and Zola. Nothing like JL at all.

But then look, more swords. Honestly, lets just throw the lasso away.

Irene Adler: “I would have you right here on this desk until you begged for mercy twice.”
Sherlock: “I’ve never begged for mercy in my life.”
    Irene: “Twice.”

Love this series but with everything going on I really need to go back and read the issues in the current story.
Really wish DC had an intro page sometimes ala Marvel.

    Yeah, my memory sucks.
Animal Man, Batman Inc, Constantine, Earth 2, Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Justice League, Justice League Dark, JLA, Saga, Swamp Thing, Supergirl and Superman.

Need I point out that those weren't her swords. She was going with the intention of getting Milan over to her side.

She was gonna attack Orion with her bare hands when suddenly she got the swords and then he came at her.

I think Heph made the cuffs, probably at Hippolyta's request, to help Diana keep her power tamped down and under control. The issue is titled "The Burden of God," and Milan says his ability is a curse; the idea that "god power" can be a burden or curse seems like a pretty big theme here. But now she needs more power for what's she going to face, and she's grown up and more prepared to control that power--as she proved against Artemis--so Heph is adjusting the bracelets to let more power through, while still keeping it udner control and channeling it into a constructive form. Why in the form of swords? I don't know, but that could easily be a smith's idea of a shape useful power might take, right?
I'm not expecting to see her "god power" and weapons summuning stuff being used in the JL or Batwoman, thought.
...because there are two Wonder Women in the New 52.

Um, they come out of her bracelets. Whose swords are they then?

I think this is being glossed over a bit, particularly since the full quote mentions "as you well know". This suggests the bracelets channels that power, and makes it more consistent and dependable, as well as making it more manageable and less dangerous.

Her swords, OK, but not her choice; she chose to go into battle with her lasso at her side and nothing in her hands, but thanks to Heph's tinkering, to her evident surprise, the swords materialized. It continues a pattern; every time she has used a sword in the series, it was dropped by or borrowed from a male. I take this pattern as kind of a metatextual and perhaps self-critical comment, along with "All-Girl Adventure Stories for Men" and Ares looking like Azzarello, about how male creators have sometimes put masculine weapons in her hands or made her a more bellicose and "masculine" hero.

Sorry, I should've said weren't. I've amended it. She didn't go into the fight with those swords.

Yeah and It seems Lennox Seeks Out Godly Kids and Kills them if they get out of control. Which would explain why the Furies wanted him dead, He has killed family.
