    Default Nightwing #15 Preview/Discussion

Didn't see a discussion so let's start one up!

    http://www.newsarama.com/php/multime....php?aid=48328

Oh its nice to have Eddy back. His artwork is amazing, too bad is too damn so.

Frankly, it could be just me, but the tie ins for this event have been so far leaps bounds above the ones for Court of Owls (though the Nightwing ones in that story were pretty good). Please let this be good. Tomasi stepped it up in his writing, so Higgins better as well.

We've been discussing it here for some reason, THE BAT SIGNAL: Higgins And Joker Target "Nightwing".

Ill say it again though, the preview looks good. Barrows definitely has skills, just too bad its 50/50 that he does the whole issue. Though i was told he has already completed his two DOTF issues in full, so thats good.

Thats really sucks for Nightwing. He's been trying hard to get his circus thing going and it just always goes down in the gutter, guess Joker got him good.

Interesting to see how this one turns out. Glad the basic artist is back but sooner or later were going to need some variety.

Lol Batgirl is dumb. She was complaining about Bruce and the whole situation back in Nightwing or Batman 14, I forget which

So that makes her dumb? Hmm, interesting.

Hypocritical or snotty would have been a better choice of words than dumb. Either way though, how are you gonna essentially tell dick to stop complaining when she was whining about similar things last month?

    It's bad inconsistent writing

Well she was whining about the Joker being back in general and Dick not wanting to help her hunt him down (LoL), but inconsistent writing tends to happen when u just throw in a fill-in like that. Personally im not gonna hold her terrible pop up in 13 against her, or even against this pop up. Which i find much better and more character appropriate.

Its not just the guest appearance in 13. In her own book, she got needlessly hostile and physically aggressive with Dick when he showed up in issue 4. This is after the author has heavily played up how field-rusty Batgirl is, brought in PTSD as an element, and had Barbara falling off buildings and into cars with the hook that she risks undoing her surgery--and of course, Babs is monologue-ing this in her own thoughts. Yet any reasonable concern on Dick's part and he's treated as if his feelings are 'bad male chauvinism' and gets kicked in the face.

No. I'm tired of her schizofrenically dumping on him and it being 'ok' or forgotten the next month. I'll be happy not to see another interaction between these two for long while after DoTF.

    NO! not Jimmy the clown!

(space kept in white, because I don't know how to use spoiler tags)

Seems like all the build up of Haley's will be all for naught, if Higgins is to be believed this was the intention all along. Gotta say, its a good way to make a Nightwing centric story arc, it really is something only he could have been in involved in.

Dick's adventures can lean towards being pretty generic at times, even when done right. This all feels pretty personal, and if my perception of how things will go next is correct, should be a terrific catalyst for Grayson's direction going forward.
Steve Rogers: You ready to follow Captain America into the jaws of death?
James Barnes: Hell, no! The little guy from Brooklyn who was too dumb not to run away from a fight. I'm following him."

Now, what I would like to see is some type of character growth... No character can always be stagnant without becoming boring. I kinda like the old slightly brooding at times Nightwing from days of yore in the NTT. Added a little bit of an edge to the character. Hopefully this will give him that edge that he needs to be more effective. Also, a good set of supporting characters would help a lot.

Shoot! I hope Joker doesn't just go and kill everyone

My problem with this event-resulting death being personal, is that... is it really? I mean for the impact that a writer wants to draw from the audience. Is it really personal? What type of relationship has been built with the circus people since put down roots in Gotham. Or more importantly what type of relationship is established with the reader?

It'll be a sad moment, but I don't see how I am to believe this is the most devastating murder Dick failed to prevent. Um, didn't Higgins kill Haly at the start of this series?... Plus, if I can state it again, the Nightwing book really doesn't have a support cast or a unique setting of its own [yet], so I am extremely nervous about Higgins killing off more of what is supposed to establish Amusement Mile.

I'm going to show some restraint and reserve final judgement until after DoTF, but it's hard. This reboot has made the DCU so thin in characterizing and world-building that many books feel like they're treading water before the next big event, which should not be what's driving a company.

Maybe Jimmy is like Isabel in Red Hood and The Outlaws, just a appetizer before the Joker gets into the main event?
