And that's what sold me on the book. Deconnick wasn't playing it safe with the usual characterizations (i.e. categorical tick boxes, "HERO", "VILLAIN", "SNOOZE"). She made an arc largely about a flawed character with issues, foibles, and entirely unlikeable traits. Here's a to writer willing to shake up the status quo.

I guess I didn't word that quite how I wanted. I suppose to me there are levels of unlikeable, where one may dislike a character but still enjoy the book they are in or what they contribute to the overall story. For me, Helen was not only unlikeable, but uninteresting in any way. To me she didn't really challenge Carol in any meaningful way and was annoying...as soon as she showed up getting through the book felt like wading through molasses.

Obviously this is just my opinion, as plenty of other people loved her and I don't think they're in the wrong for doing so. Just not my cuppa.

The comparison was in no way meant as a bad thing, I actually love McKeever's art (if not his recent stories, Meta4 and Mondo? the hell was that???).
But it's not a style that generally fits 'regular' superhero series. Carol is not one of those 'quirky' characters.
Maybe on some offbeat miniseries like Legion Of Monster, that had some great unusual art and was very enjoyable!

But anyway yeah, Andrade is much better than Dexter Soy.

It's beautiful, it's different, it's avant garde, it's a rush of fluidity, stunning motion. It's not classic comic line work and the anatomy is distended fantastically - but this is a COMIC. It works. The effort and artistic base are all there.
The faces most definitely do NOT work.

Why do they 'definitely' not work?
You can tell it's a human face, right? They don't look like cow heads, or a random object like a bicycle wheel. I think that's the only way somebody could objectionally fail at drawing a face.
I just checked the preview art again, and can definitely pick out two eyes, a nose and a mouth on all the figures.

You would have hated Stroman in his days on 90s X-Factor, I'm sure.

It's moments like this that I'm kind of glad that the forums aren't the sum total of comics readers.

The art is gorgeous (I really love the colour choices). It's not traditional, but it's def oozing style.

Obviously, you'll like what you like and cannot be told what to appreciate.

The line work here probably appeals to me largely because it draws up memories of Aeon Flux in my head. That makes me feel it's 100% appropriate for another heroine I love, I think. :D

    My criticisms
    -very far apart eyes
-Carol having high heels instead of boots

Otherwise, it's growing on me pretty fast

Not cow, but definitely not human. I'm thinking more weasel-ish. But not human... not on this planet.
