Going by M-Theory, String Theory, and the current hypotheses concerning time travel and alternate realities, it is possible to deviate from reaching that future from the current 616. Because humans cannot perceive the entirety of the 11 dimensions of perception we are unable to manipulate the fabric of Spacetime like Jean Grey did in Here Comes Tomorrow. The best we, or the X-Men in this case can do is live their lives, and it will happen or the current 616 will branch off into another path. Time isn't linear, and moving through space is also moving through time. So that future has already happened, but not to the 616. That future can be averted, but not directly by the X-Men manipulating the time line. It is sort of a probability factor. Just because a future exist does not mean it is "THE END ALL BE ALL FUTURE." It can change.

Techinically that future does happen though. Even if that future is changed in 616, it always happens just in a different alternate reality. All that happened is that when Cable, Hope and Bishop time traveled, they ended up in a non-616 universe that they perceived to be 616 but was not. Of course, Marvel's time travel is terrible inconsistent so they don't follow pure M-theory.
It's hard for me to listen to people not in my position. A caterpillar can't relate to what an eagle envisions.
