Default Did anybody see/hear Paul McCartney rock out with the ex-Nirvana guys on SNL tonight?

If you watched the benefit concert for the victims of Hurricane Sandy on 12/12/12, then you probably caught Paul McCartney's performance with the surviving members of Nirvana for their collaboration song, "Cut Me Some Slack."

I think that the band sounded a bit sloppy at 12/12/12, but they sounded *great* tonight on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. Check it out.

That's vintage *rock* McCartney, like back in the WHITE ALBUM days...and vintage Nirvana rhythm section as well.

I did see it, but the song hasn't done anything for me. They look like they're having fun rocking out, but there's no hook.

True. That was the one weakness of the tune: with Paul McCartney and Dave Grohl as chief musical architects, you'd expect a better melody/riff line.

Well, I would expect McCartney to write better melody, but the man is no longer capable of performing the melody.

It was pretty good, I quite enjoyed it. Would have been cooler if they'd have brought out Frances (Kurt's daughter) to sing a few Nirvana songs, but I'm okay with this.

Macca's voice has weakened a bit the past few years, and it has affected his ability to perform his more delicate, ballad numbers (e.g "Yesterday," "Blackbird," etc.) live.

Ironically, it seems to have had a minimal effect on his ability to roar on the rockers ("Long Tall Sally," "Helter Skelter"), which worked to his favor in this latter day Nirvana effort with Macca subbing for Kurt Cobain.
