Eh, it's like our "making love in a canoe", pond hockey, RCMP, the weather etc.
Americans have tied the myth of the lone fighter/the outsider/the rebel who wins the day because his cause is just into their national mythology. Ideas have power and how we define ourselves are some of the most powerful political ideas.

It still doesn't make for a rational argument.

You think the petition to deport Piers Morgan is crazy....there is a petition the federal government arrest Meet the Press host David Gregory for making an ass out of the NRA president on Sunday.

Gregory was cleared to show an empty clip in the piece by a DC police officer before he did that.

Deport him to Afghanistan. I'd love to see what happens when some squaddies get their hands on him.

It sure looks painful to be shot with one. It's not like people just harmlessly fell asleep when shot. They reacted violently.

But that could just be Shatner-style overacting.

One would think, but there is no reasoning with some folks.
What have I always believed? That, on the whole, and by and large, if a person lived properly, not according to what any priests said, but according to what seemed decent and honest inside, then it would, at the end, more or less, turn out ok.

It is a cultural matter, thus rationality has little to do with it.

"May have been give the green light by a police official." Since when can police officials green-light a crime?

Added and the idea that he had permission was shot to hell by the DC police
