Default After Stan and Jack who contributed the best characters to modern Marvelverse?

Byrne and Jim Lee with characters like Phoenix and Bishop? Mark Gruenwald with US agent etc ? Steve Ditko for Doc Strange and the Spider-Man rogues? Roy Thomas and Gary Friedrich with Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Vision etc Walt and Louise Simonson with characters like Beta Ray Bill, Apocalypse, Cable etc Len Wein with Colossus, Storm etc or Rob Liefield ok not a great writer and not the best artists but he did create characters

    who would you pick?

How is Ditko not in the thread title?

For sheer numbers, Bill Mantlo and Marc Gruenwald probably created the most new characters at Marvel (Gru also boasted he'd killed off the most characters, too.) I'd say Jim Starlin created a pretty big chunk of the cosmic side (Thanos, Pip, Moondragon, the Eternals of Titan, etc). And although they were few in number, I'd say Steve Gerber's characters helped make Marvel the off-kilter, crazy place that made 70s comics so trippy.

    the late Joe Simon.

Creator of Captain America, Bucky Barnes, and the Red Skull.

maybe he didn't make the same amount of heroes as jack or stan did, but he certainly impacted the modern MU.
Steve Rogers: You ready to follow Captain America into the jaws of death?
James Barnes: Hell, no! The little guy from Brooklyn who was too dumb not to run away from a fight. I'm following him."

I see folks saying Claremont, but I can't think of too many "great" characters Claremont came up with. Even my favorite x-characters that he wrote are mostly ones he inherited. Who're y'all thinking of? (Honestly curious.)

John Romita Sr., Neal Adams, John Byrne, Frank Miller, Chris Claremont, Steranko (even if it was only a few issues of Captain America and Nick Fury, his stuff was always ahead of it's time)

    Edit: almost forgot Walter Simonson
