And the theme music sounded like a left over from the Batman soundtrack. Just rewatched it a few months ago and the biggest problem for me to get past was the clothes.
I think The Flash would be a good subject for an animated series, but there's no way it would be written as to slavishly follow the character's comic history as the OP suggests.
Actually, if they do this new series good, I would watch it. Is it fan-made? I can see this new show's first season being more a younger Barry who just got his powers and throughout the season we see him develop his costume, realize his powers, get his job etc. By the end of the first season, we have a complete Barry Allen origin while building up plots like Earth 2, Iris, Rogues etc.
BUT if they do it Smallville and spend 10 years getting him into his costume and not even show him do much in it, I will be pissed.
I think that it's more likely thy they do it as another superhero show. But given the story arc tendency of most animated series and dramas it would it woulnd't be far fetched. And it would be a waste not to use all the sci-fi elements of Flash's rich story in order to have him facing his rogues gallery over and over like any other show. Btw, I don't mean to suggest a show that would slavishly follow the comics, just using it to get story arcs. In fact, I'm not even reinventingh the wheel, X-men (1992) already did the same thing.
Then again, the Wally switch of the example I did is the type of thing that happens in Japanese series but rarely in American ones (yet, there's Batman Beyond).
Yeah, even as a kid I got the feeling that it was meant to be soewhat in line with Burton's Batman. Then I learned that Flash is not supposed to be that dark.

Personally I want an Impulse cartoon done in the style of the Teen Titian's cartoon.
