There's plenty of full-contact, actual fighting stuff out there. Plus, they have the wonderful opportunity to watch humans actually practicing to fight, learning to fight, etc.
I don't buy that they'd miss the absolute, base-level fundamental of fighting, by analyzing real-world fights. It's also fairly doubtful that the AI's would mistake video game stuff for actual fighting. :)
A fact which is borne up by Reeves' own crappy footwork. I guess his download had the same problems as them?
More likely the explanation is meh choreography, stemming either from someone having injuries and them having to adjust...or just meh choreography, period.
