You also have to take into account Garthan Saal's appearance in DnA's run when he rescued the Shi'Ar Nova prime. It's possible they were able to isolate that portion of the Nova Force and energize it to create the new corps, but that's just me.

    I just read the article.

WHY IS STAR-LORD BACK IF NOVA IS DEAD!

Marvel is allowing Bendis to write Peter Quill's survival, which tells me they could have written a way of of the cancer-verse for Richard, also. They mentioned Quill in the Cancer-verse in "Avengers Assemble" and someone asked how he survived it. Quill's response was a strange look on his face.

Loeb could have written a Nova with Richard Rider, just like Bendis is doing with Quill. But Loeb saw a crack of opportunity, and drove a big fat truck through it. He did not come up with an idea on how to bring Pete back. He found an opportunity to bring his own Nova. And then Marvel allowed the uniform and mythology change.

At least Bendis is respecting who Star-lord is. He is not saying "DnA killed Peter Quill, so I am creating a different guy."

By reading the article, I saw them say the Nova Force and the Worldmind were gone. So I had this same question. Where is he getting the Nova Force from. You are right - they can explain it away. After forty years of comic reading, I know they can explain anything. Which tells me they could explain how Richard survived the cancerverse - if they wanted to.

    hold a second.

apparently i'm blind because i just noticed that the guy kissing what I presume to be Sam's sister is the same guy in the page with the talking Nova corps members.

So Sam has a family connection to the corps? I can only guess thats his dad. was there ever anybody with the last name Alexander before? Maybe he dies and Sam has to take his place? Is that even how it works?

Loeb's last couple of books were pretty good. He knows how to write teenage characters. Ultimate X was fantastic. This should be a fun book. And I also read an interview with someone from Marvel that said that Ryder's situation would be addressed. Still doesn't change the fact that his name is Dick Ryder. I'm sure I've seen that name in a porno before....

Excuse me Mr Wacker sir. But the so called Kvetchers you refer to are the very die hard Nova core fan base who have followed the character since 1976. Folks like me who contribute on a regular basis to Nova Prime Page since 1998 and other fan sites. Are you essentially saying that we don't have the right to voice our concerns over this new "re-boot"?

FACT: Majority of fans don't like the idea of a re-boot. They don't like the idea of having a 16 year old kid from some forgotten corner of Arizona wearing the suit over an established character which - without intervention of certain powers at be at Marvel - who opted to cancel Nova's previous series ad GOTG under Dna - who despite certain rumors did not plan to kill off Richard Rider at the end of TTI but were "asked" to in order to bring forth this new status quo --- could have gone on to ever greater heights since the rise of the character after Annihilation.

We moan Mr Wacker because we - the fans - have a right to ensure what's best for the character. After all its our hard earned cash that goes into Marvel's coffers to pay for it in the first instance. If you want to make Nova a success - you got to be prepared to show both the established fanbase and the new that you plans will be something truly spectacular and a fun ride as you claim. Its no good Loeb saying he respects the older fan base and Nova's past legacy in interviews when we see comments online like this telling us "Kvetchers" to take a hike.

For now - I will not be buying the new Nova. It will be the first Nova series I have ever opted not to subscribe to in 38 years of support to the character. And many others in the camp feel the same way considering the number of negative views towards the series on forums elsewhere.

However, not all is lost. I will though be following GOTG as I find it surprising that there Peter Quill is at least getting the respect the character is due - so its not all a loss for you.

Huh? Who said you had no "right". That's just a silly drama school reaction. I'll get the smelling salts as you collapse onto the fainting couch.

I skipped the rest of your post as it was starting out so self-possessed and I can pretty much guess the rest of your standard "oh...woe! Won't someone think about the fans. I shant be buying!" schtick, but I hope you like the book! It's really good.

Nova never died, he got trapped in the cancerverse, I got that from my first read through of TTI. The comic industry excels at telling you what happens through editorial and not story.

Are we going to get a Richard Rider death scene in Guardians of the Galaxy or NOVA? Wouldn't there need to be one with Peter Quill and Thanos being in the land of the living in our reality?

Mr. Wacker, I have been a Nova fan since the original series. I am 46 years old, and when I like a character, I like the secret identity, also. I am not going to knock the new Centurion. But, Richard Rider has always been my favorite character, not just Nova. Please realize this.

Peter Parker, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, etc - all great characters. They are Spiderman, Captain America, the Hulk, Iron-man. And I know there have been many Nova Corpsmen, but Richard Rider is the Nova I want to see under the bucket. You understand this. Please do not act like you do not.

I will give the new series a try. But I will be hoping Rich will come around - the sooner the better.

Yay! My friends getting this! Which means I can read it, looks amazing! I read some parts of the AVX collection (Still got more to read!) and Nova was great in that infinite comic.

It's not remotely the Nova I want to read, but on the off chance that supporting this version and the Bendis helmed GotG might get me a Silver Surfer ongoing down the line, if cosmic takes off again, then I shall likely buy it.

I still say having this Nova on Earth, and then having Ryder as Nova Prime in space would have kept everyone happy and been the way forward, but hey, I dont work at Marvel.

It involves a character that hasn't really been explored that much in 616 and Loeb tends to do better (at Marvel anyways) with characters that don't have a whole lot of backstory. I know Richard Rider fans aren't going to like it, but I think Sam is new and could certainly hold his own at least for a while. But in the long run, I would like to see Rider come back. Loeb already brought back Cable in a great way. Maybe he can do the same for Richard Rider down the line.
X-sanction was horrible. Absolutely no reason why the Avengers showed up one by one.

Typical arrogance from Marvel's current editorial team. I guess Mr. Wacker like Mr Brevoort and Mr. Alonso doesn't realize that it's the fans of the character who spend the money to make the books successful and support his continued employment. Otherwise, he wouldn't talk to a customer that way.

If Mr. Loeb wanted to create a tribute character, he should've just created something original rather than hi-jacking a character/concept that had an established fan base.

Mr. Wacker - why would you assume that hi-jacking Nova WOULDN'T alienate the fan base - many of whom have been around since 1976? I've seen "Nova in Name Only" (hereinafter referred to as NINO) Sam Alexander on the USM cartoon and in the books published so far; and I'm not impressed. I'm not pre-judging - I'm JUDGING based on what I've seen so far and I find NINO inferior, disappointing, and disrespectful to the legacy of the character and to the "36 year Nova fan base."

Talk down to us all you like. Make condescending remarks about our feelings about the issue. Do your worst. And we'll do our worst too. We won't buy your book. 30K reliably bought Nova in the past. Let's see how long this abomination lasts if most of those 30K don't buy.
