I was wondering, are the democrats really seen as lefties in the states?

Cause they seem pretty tamed to me on that subject. I mean, we have real communists here, radicals, socialists and social-liberals so i'm kinda use to the left rhetoric, points and views of the society and from here the Democrats seem to me more in the center, right-center of the political prism than anywhere in the left.

From a European POV they're rather center-right or center at best in some cases. No lefties in the USA. You only have to see how some people call Obama a socialist as an insult (not even social-democrat :p).

Of course if the Republicans would acknowledge that Obama was somewhat right of center, then they also have to acknowledge that they themselves are rather extremely to the right and not very different from fascists.

Yeah, Obama is only left by American standards, to the rest of the civilized world he would be center-right. He's more conservative than Richard Nixon on a lot of issues. It's a symptom of how far right America has moved since Reagan.
