Yes... Because the Republicans gumming up anyhting at all getting passed for no reason at all has not been a problem at all up to now for Obama.

I'm not too sure that on a national level, those voters would be in an overwhelming majority against more gun control.

It is secular Gospel in the US since as I said it is what our government and legal system are built a upon. Your wishing we would go to a system where the movement didn't have hard restraints on it's power doesn't make that likely. Especially to do something that is not overwhelming approved of by the population or from what numbers I have seen even approved of by a significant minority

The last time we had a major fight about what was Constitutional or not it cost us 600,000 dead and was worth the price.
As an American, I say you are absolutely wrong. It is nothing but a piece of paper that describes the power of our government. It is not the source. At all. We (the people) are the source.

BTW New York States gun laws are not all that restrictive

Probably the least restrictive state is Vermont
So you'd accept that there'd be no Constitutional problem with imposing New york State's gun laws nationally?

Once again, Mike, virtually nobody is proposing a "gun ban". That's just another Republican fantasy.

And it's not like enacting new legislation when people are pissed and emotional in the wake of a tragedy could result in *bad* law.

I mean, that's exactly what Congress did after 9/11, and we got the PATRIOT Act. And everybody agrees that that worked out great.

A tragedy on so many levels, it's hard not to cry every time I think about all the pain and suffering that so many are experiencing.

"Patriot Act" and "worked out great" should never appear within the same thought.

Now, I'm not surprised when the gun lobby and gun control advocates face off in the wake of a tragedy. That makes sense to me.

But I'm seeing a lot of Christian Fundamentalists starting to echo Mike Huckabee, and try to use the tragedy as a way push for the resuming prayer in schools. Because we were so morally guided back in the good ol' 1950s when we had it. Y'know the days? Where you could legally sexually harass women at work, assault gays and the cops wouldn't look into it, or prevent interracial marriages legally. Having the words "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance clearly is what kept us from evil, and now that it's gone, people will just do EVIL things.

I just lost a Facebook friend over THIS. I mean, I'm totally okay with that, but I'm still just wondering... why would anyone follow Huckabee's lead on this?

From an exterior point of view, this mix you have between the state, official institutions as school for example and religion is really, really surprising.

I mean, i'm actually smiling right now imagining the people's reaction here if someone dare to propose such a thing as prayers in school.

Oh boy, poor bastard better runs fast, let me tell you that.

But hey, not saying it's good or bad. That's your deal, your choice, totally respect that.

People get guns easily, people will use it. In my country you cant get guns that easily, so there are less people dead from gunshots. America, for us, is like the wild west sometimes.

Canada has a massive ammount of gun ownership and few mass shootings.
