not to dismiss the outrage and pain, but kids have been getting killed by guns, by accident and on purpose, for a very long time. it's not even the first time someone has targeted elementary age children at a school.

Well the thing is, back when I was younger I was able to work up passion like yours, but the older I've gotten, the more I've seen that no matter how much the good people in the world want to make the world a better place, the evil people hold all the strings and nothing ever changes. So I'm just all, fuck it, and I've totally given up on anything and everything, which is a totally shitty thing to do but I just don't have the energy anymore to bash my head against walls.

I can't believe you're making me say this, but I'm old! I really am! I'm still fresh as a fucking daisy... but old. My problem is I have a three year old, and a 22 month old. If you look at the history of gun control in the US you will realize that Mike is presenting a straw man argument. Both state and federal laws have been more restrictive in the past thanc urrently and these restrictions have been upheld as constitutionally valid. At most, you'd need to replace a couple of the current Supreme Court justices.
