    Default Aquaman and Animal Man

If Aquaman can control and command the creatures of the sea. And Animal Man can control animals...does this mean Animal Man can control animals from the sea? Would both be at the same level.

Please, this is not a VS fight disscusion. It's not about how is more powerful or anything. This is just for geeky knowledge on both characters.

    Input please!

I don't think Animal Man can command animals. He has Animal-based powers.

I actually would really like this question answered because it seems interesting. We have seen a former Animal Man use the powers of a Shark so they probably also have dominion over sea life I would assume Animal Man and Aquaman would be about even with their control of sea life but both Buddy and Arthur would pale in comparison to Maxine's control over them.

    That's what I thought too. . .

Abilities: Can gain the powers of any animal that exists or has existed on a planet via access to "The Red".
I found it on the internet so it must be true. (And we all know Wikipedia doesn't lie.)

Animal Man doesn't control animals, he borrows their abilities.

    They have different powers.

Animal Man "borrows" the powers of all animals, and in NuDCU he does that to an even greater degree, since his appearance changes and he can take more than one power at a time. He is also a skilled stuntman and a well known enviromentalist.

Aquaman is super-strong, super-fast, has super-endurance, nigh invulnerability, has super-senses, can leap like GA Superman, wields an unbreakable Trident and has telepathy, that mostly affects sea creatures (or anything evolved from them)
He is also an expert fighter, tactician and leader (former king of Atlantis and hero before JL was even created)

I'm less excited by the current Aquaman's "I don't talk to fish" business, for that matter. Aquaman should talk to fish, not just direct them.

It's weird that we've allowed ourselves to be convinced that talking to fish is not cool. Talking to fish is VERY cool.

In a world where sharks can take out parademons that used to give Superman trouble, you'd think he'd be more interested in talking with them. Jaws there probably has the anti-anti-life equation that could save all life as we know it, but too bad, this hardcore Aquaman's too good to talk to fish. Or dolphins. Or, crabs. Squid.

From what I've read, they haven't dropped it, just explained it differently. He says in the first issue fishes don't have the level of intelligence to "talk to" but he can psychically contact them.

But dropped altogether or not, Johns hasn't used it that often, that's for sure. His Aquaman is written fine enough, but it's generic - could be any superhero he's writing about. I liked how JMS wrote Aquaman in Brave and the Bold, he made the "talk to fish" power badass as hell.

Great White Sharks and when did Superman have trouble with them? Pretty sure he was throwing them around left and right.

During his Vertigo runs Animal Man's power was upped to being able to use any number of animal powers of any animal that exists. This potentially makes him the most powerful superhero out there. Speed + Strength + Duplicate himself like a bacteria+ regrow wounds + Flight + all kinds of other wacky animal powers. At one point he could combine different animals into a new animal, and even create animals at will. In Jamie Delano's run he turned into a giant gargoyle and I remember him controlling vermin like rats and bugs at some point.

    "Used to" as in pre-Flashpoint.

The rest is just me messing around.

I would like Aquaman to communicate with sea life, though. He's already a born king, and announces himself as rightful ruler of all the seas often enough, I think psychic control is just a step gauche.
