I don't think they were useless. I thought it was a very clever way for Neil to introduce the concept of the Eternals to a new generation of readers who may not have been familiar with them (i.e. Me, in particular) while still honoring their history and stating that, yes, the stories that you did read still happened.

    The problems are:

    a) That the Eternals origin didn't need fixing. He still could have told his story about the amnestic Eternals without altering the background.
    b) A whole lot of the stories cannot simply have happend.

Ask yourself: Where do the Titan Eternals like Thanos, the Uranus Eternals and the Inhumans come from within Gaimen's new origin? Not to mention characters like Drax the Destroyer. It all was dependant on the Eternals starting as a true species, before they evolved to the godlike beings, they eventual became through Kronos experiements.

Changing the Eternals origin story undid a whole lot of the Marvels Universe background story without replacing it, which I guess is my beef.
So IMO, it was pretty useless since there was no reason for the changes anyhow.

Now if that had been Ultimate Eternals, I wouldn't have had any problems with it, but it played in the main continuity.
Perhaps I am a bit of a continuity nut, but all those changes were unnecessary in my opinion and simply changes for changes sake.

He didn't. The stories still happened, the Earth bound Eternals just didn't remember them.

No, they still happened. Nothing in the story contradicts that.

    Because none of that changed.

He didn't. He just stated that they didn't remember their origins due to the machinations of Sprite.

Except he didn't change the origin. He just found a way to present the old stories in a new way to new readers.

Look I don't want to argue, but according to Gaimen, the Eternals started as immortal godlike beings right from the start. The guys in his mini, were the ape-men turned into the original Eternals and not their immortal godlike decendants from eons later, which needed Kronos to activate their full genetic potential. So basically Gaimens Eternals never were a species, but almost a bunch of biological robots with replacement bodies and Sprite wouldn't grew up because that was his permanent form. So yes, Gaimens Eternals are pretty different from Kirby's Eternals.
The truth they remember in the end, is also different from what was stated before and it doesn't vibe with all the other stories and origins, which are dependant on the original take.

This hasn't been mentioned anywhere since, has it? I wonder if Parker still has plans.

That seems to be the way the character's been written ever since Kirby left the FF series way back when, which is why I find it's become such a bore. But I would still pick Crystal, not so much as a favourite Avenger (since I don't much like the character that was in the Avengers), but as a favourite character who was in the Avengers (in a different version).

Sersi would be in a similar situation for me: I like the character that was in Kirby's Eternals, but not the one that was in the Avengers, at least as far as I can tell from what I've heard or read about it on-line.

Speaking of both Sersi and Gaiman's Eternals, I don't think he got her right at all: for example, the scene where he hires or buys, I forget which, an entire restaurant to take her out to dinner - why on earth would Sersi be impressed by Tony Stark's wealth and power? Made no sense for that character, and it was one of several little wrong notes that left me with the impression Gaiman would really have preferred to be writing an Iron Man story rather than an Eternals.
