    Default REVIEW: Avengers Arena #1

Dennis Hopeless and Kev Walker's "Avengers Arena" #1 wears its influence on its sleeve, but instead of coming across as shocking or surprising, this forced battle-to-the-death between heroes feels utterly average.

A pretty fair review for one, But you gave it about two too many stars

Fair review overall. I can't complain. (SHOCK!)

Reviewing is a lot like paleontology: the evidence is there, but no one seems to agree on it.

I only skimmed it in the store and generally agree with this review. The art looked much better in the previews for some reason, and the story was just so dull and predictable. It's not even shocking. It's just mediocre.

Yeah I can't really say I disagree either with the score either.

I disagree with this review This was excellent for a first issue.
Great art and mostly focusing on only two people was the right choice with such a large cast.
Just look at Thunderbolts one thats a bad first issue.
fails to stand out among the pack of other Marvel NOW! titles.
It appears to me its the most discussed Marvel now book on comic and cartoons boards.

Gotta say I disagree with those stars (what a surprise!). I really enjoyed it and it's got to be one of my favourite issues to come out of Marvel NOW! so far.
Avengers Arena is one of the best books in the shops right now, it's seriously amazing.

The amount of discussion about it does not indicate overall quality. That's a silly thing to assume. I'd use a quote from Penn & Teller's Showtime show, but Arena's not exactly 'popular' in the discussions. Oh heck, why not.

And 'Candle in the wind' by Sir Elton John is the best selling album of all time. Heh. Popular sure doesn't mean right.
Or, in this case, Discussion doesn't mean 'good'. Most of it is of how Bad it is.

Your points are either A) something the reviewer agreed with and B) irrelevant to the failings mentioned.

Even the small focus was undermined by Arcade ballyhoo.

and not because of its new and magnificent preview nor because of it revolutionary concepts, or its writing, it is really mostly a battle between those who hated and those who for reasons beyond me like it

That is not due to it's merit is is due to the premise

lol like CBR reviews have an ounce of credibility left after their Legacy reviews.

I don't know it was because I was so hyped for this but I enjoyed every second while I was reading. I have only read about 400 comic book issues so far but I can say that this was the best issue I have read!
    Squad Name: Star Indigo Nightmare
Squad Level: 42 (just started playing)
Marvel Heroes - Closed Beta Tester
    Avengers Alliance - Level 91
    Favourite Title: Avengers Arena
