They also had to put him in solo series periodically. He headlined Tales of Suspense for a long time, then got his self-titled solo series, then a solo reprint series, then a new mini series every so many years, not to mention a new ongoing in the 1990s that ran for several years. Namor has had more books than you might think.
There is good in that original creations but the problem is that the main white readership wont read the new minority heroes DC/Marvel publish for their minority readers. They cant make money on new black, Asian heroes etc they must make them Legacy characters to sell the comics to main one color readership.
Trust me as minority fan of superhero comics i dont want to see a black, Asian etc version of an original hero. That's leftovers but the privileged readers is responsible for what DC and Marvel are doing with ethnicity changes.

There has to be a way to be more in the way we express ourselves.
I think in this case it all snowballed from "sigh", then sarcasm, then the cry thing and finally "you bore me".
I've been trying to make it a habit to praise virtues and validate concerns before any criticism or disagreement, but it's really hard. Specially after one receives a comment that rubs the wrong way.
Anyway, I agree with both on Alan's ring. It's an easter egg and a hint of what's going on.
Characters: Elongated Man, Batman, Satellite JLA, Super Buddies, Sandman, Swamp Thing
Writers: Moore, Gaiman, Cooke, Giffen/DeMatteis, Miller, Dini, Morrison, Waid, Meltzer, McDuffie, Barr, Englehart
But that's exactly why Marvel DOES keep coming out with "Captain Marvel" series every so often. Whether it's a mini, an ongoing, a reprint book, or a graphic novel. CM doesn't get by only on guest appearances at Marvel. They don't let too many years go by without publishing a new book with the CM name on the cover.
"You bore me" is probably my favorite, not only in this thread, but for a long time.

But why should that be my problem? Or any other fan of the original characters' problem? I'm not going to buy a character I have no interest in just because they have the same code name as one that I liked; I want to read about the one I liked!
They killed Captain Mar-Vell because they wanted a strong, memorable story to launch their new Marvel Graphic Novel line, and this was a story Jim Starlin (who was strongly attached to the character) wanted to tell. That's all. Captain Marvel at that time was a character who seemed pretty much played out so rather than simply let him fade away, they gave him a strong, conclusive ending.
I mean you can understand what DC is doing they are doing with legacy characters because none of us like that stuff buts its the end product of only old heroes selling.
I have more interest new heroes than original heroes because there is that freshness that you dont need to understand, read 70 years of history of the old original characters. In ideal superhero market there would be no need for legacy characters.
