WB Debuts Trailer for Snyder's "Man of Steel" Superman Reboot

The trailer looked really good.

I hope that Superman wins the people over by the end of the film, though. Superman isn't X-Men, and part of Luther's beef with the guy is that he's almost universally adored. So if this is the story of how Superman finds his place in the world, I'm all for it.

But if they're looking to stretch Superman's existential crisis into a trilogy, I'm less enthused.

Nah... I expect that this is as you said, Superman finding his place in the world. Then they can introduce Luthor as the jealous and overly cautious genius billionaire in II while allowing Superman to fight another character. Perhaps Braniac would be good. And Luthor comes into possession of Braniac tech. Leading to III, where Luthor takes on Superman in a Braniac tech inspired suit. Maybe merging Braniacs suit and the suit that it appears Zod is wearing.

It's an interesting twist in having Superman's Earth father being so secretive about Clark's abilities but I hope his life in Smallville isn't too much of the film's runtime. It's been done to death, it was done in the last reboot (as one of the few 3D scenes) and I love Smallville so I've seen it done for 10 years. It's also done for like a third of the Chris Reeve movie.

I also hope it's Lois that Clark is talking to about wondering if mankind can accept him and I too hope that the film ends with his acceptance by Earth. That would be fairly inspiring (and something that would drive Luthor batty).

Also I squeed when Superman took Lois's hand in his. I'm not ashamed.

Hopefully the lack of action is just them needing more time to work on the effects, and not a lack of action in the film.

I'm glad that it looks like humanity isn't welcoming Superman with open arms right away though. Powerful aliens showing up and saying they come in peace is how almost every alien invasion movie starts.

Althought the idea of the armed guards and handcuffs seems pretty silly. I mean, he's Superman, he's obviously just going along with them if they have him like that. And those guns and handcuffs aren't going to do anything, even if he tried something funny they would all likely hurt themselves more with those guns.

Thats the point. Superman can easily break away, but he won't. He is trying to convey that he isn't a threat, and won't abuse his powers.

I don't see how. They might not have a grasp on exactly how powerful he is, so it makes sense that they would have handcuffs and a guard detail. They perceive him as a threat, how else should they react?

Because those things would do nothing. If he's just going with them, what's the point of stuff that wouldn't do anything?

If they had that I can guarantee you would see in around his neck, or a guard or two would be holding some container of it, maybe they would also be in hazmat suits.

Its symbolic. They are testing each other. The government wants to see how this super-human being reacts when they rightfully exert their authority, and Superman is showing his willingness to submit to them.

Because, they didn't take Superman by force, he had to have just shown up and went with them. If he's just shown up and going with them, and they know these things wouldn't do anything to him...then what's the point? Well this also hits the point where we don't know the full extent of what's going on in the scene. Maybe Superman insisted on being cuffed in order to show he's willing to conform to and respect human authority figures? It doesn't seem like something that's out of character for him.
