I guess lots of people drop a TV show after 1 episode, but don't know, if you are into the characters and the setting, i normally would be interested in seeing where things go. Im a Conan the Barbarian fan, not obsseed, but still a fan. I gave Brian Wood's book three issues.

Or maybe it tells me that retailers just wanted the varients, i'm sure many big stores, have 25 or more Deadpool and Uncanny Avengers #1s on the shelves
I don't think that it's the retailers just straight up ordering 37-60% less. I think it has more to do with the pre subscribers. There are the people who put in a sub at their LCS for the whole series of, say, Uncanny Avengers, and then people who only sub to issue #1. So I'm thinking that a lot more people only preorder #1 as opposed to subbing the whole series, causing the large drop between #1 and #2. As a comic book store ordered, the whole series subscriptions would way much more than only the #1 issue subscriptions when figuring out how much to order for #2 and beyond.

I believe the relaunch is a flop, not much of a success like the DC 52īs? What will Marvel do next?

DC also offered returnability on alot of the first New52 up to #8 (I think), and larger than normal discounts on others, so those would have taken the sting out of the financial risks as well. If memory serves only 10 of the 52 titles were on a non-returnable, standard discounts basis, and those were mostly the sure fire books like Justice League, Green Lantern, Batman, etc.

If you compare Marvel Now to Marvel: The Heroic Age instead of the Nu52, it's a HUGE success, of course.

Really its 2 different style launches as I explained to Rich Johnston on a thread. Marvel is spreading all their #1's out over 5-6 months and relaunching that way. DC did a line wide relaunch at #1 and went from there in a way. DC knew going in they were gonna maximize sales in a 2-3 month span and did with 5+ million comics sold. Marvel is playing a longer game and going with spreading it out over 5-6 months and luring readers that way.

Its 2 drastically different launch ideas . Marvel's is working for them as DC's worked for them. The only way you can compare it is ...you wait a year , take the 1st 3-4 issues of each relaunch #1 and add them as a whole to see how they stacked up.
