Default Sales Estimates for November, 2012 - "All-New X-Men" Leads Marvel NOW! Sales Dominati

November was a very good month for Marvel as the publisher's Marvel NOW! initiative had 8 of the top ten best-selling titles leading to overall sales domination while IDW's "My Little Pony" debuted at #15.

So should Marvel be really happy if X-men #1 was 181k then #2 was 96k? All the number 2's fell like 30 to 45% that month. Man looking at those numbers comic sales are kind of depressing when you get to the 30s and below.

If it levels out at those numbers, I'd say they'd be ecstatic.

    Right on.

Maybe double-shipping the first two issues of a new series isn't such a bright idea after all...

Very proud to see All New X-men #1 at the top of the charts. As a life-long X-men fan, I'm proud to see that it outbeat the rest of the Marvel NOW! competition and DC's heavy hitters. But like DC's reboot last year, I anticipate the onslaught of new #1 books will really skew the sales figures for a while. For DC, some of those relaunches became sustained top sellers, like Aqauman and Batman. Some of the Marvel NOW! books could do the same, but it's hard to tell at this point.

All of these double shipping relaunches from Marvel means retailers had to order like the first four issues before the first issue hit stands. It's all guesswork at this point. Remember, these are the number of copies that retailers ordered, not how many sold through and went home with customers. We won't accurately know how well NOW did for another month or more.

I was kinda shocked at how many of the DC books are hanging on by their fingernails. Grifter, Deathstroke, IVampire, Blue Beetle, Firestorm, etc. I knew those books were low, but damn. Is it even beneficial to keep those series going?

Interesting that the fourth highest selling comic by DC was Batgirl.

I'm sorry, but I'm failing to see the justification in firing a writer who was getting good reviews and producing a high seller. Those kind of numbers out of any female fronted book, much less Batgirl, is insane.

There's a crossover factor working there, though.

its just wierd that retailers ordered 40% less on the number 2's,

DO that many readers just say screw it after 1 issue? There may be a lot of people looking for number 2 on All New X-men and Thor
I guess lots of people drop a TV show after 1 episode, but don't know, if you are into the characters and the setting, i normally would be interested in seeing where things go. Im a Conan the Barbarian fan, not obsseed, but still a fan. I gave Brian Wood's book three issues.

Or maybe it tells me that retailers just wanted the varients, i'm sure many big stores, have 25 or more Deadpool and Uncanny Avengers #1s on the shelves

That's pretty common, even without variants. Although it's probably exacerbated by the short shipping timeframe. DC's New 52 had smaller drops, but retailers had time to get last minute orders in before the cutoff.

That's n unusually high drop between the first and second issues but with #2 still selling close to 100,000 I don't think they'll care unless #3 shows a similar drop from #2.

Now if Deadpool loses 40% of its sales between #1 and #2, that might be a cause for concern.

Take a look at the estimated cumulative trade paper back sales. Walking Dead vol. 1 has sold almost 250,000 copies - via the direct market alone. In contrast, long-running successful titles like Transmetropolitan and Preacher are on less than 40,000.

As one comic shop guy explained to me... there is always people who try a #1 . But there isn't many who stick for a #2 . So they cut orders for #2 and then for #3. By 4 they know exactly what orders to have for those issues.

DC already made the announcement that Grifter and Blue Beetle were going away. You will see Grifter pop up here and there in other titles (Team 7) and Blue Beetle is going to be in the new title called Threshold, DCs answer it seems to Guardians of the Galaxy.

Others that DC announced were Frankenstien Agent of SHADE and Lost Legion. Both titles will end the beginning of next year. They brought back Captain Atom in the last and next issues of Firestorm. Unlikely this will help it stay afloat. With Scott Snyder leaving Swamp Thing at the end of the Rotworld title it will be interesting to see how that one lasts. I am looking forward to Snyder/Lee combination on the new Superman collaboration.

It won't be long before they shake things up again for both companies. It is disappointing to see all the creative team changes with DC. I expect the same from Marvel NOW! issues when they hit #10 to #13.
