Remember the 'Wolverine Art Appreciation' variants from a couple of years ago?

Sure, DC's different coloured variants are pretty crass, but Marvel really are standing in that little glass house, hurling stones out...
Hey now, I LOVED those Wolverine and Iron Man Art Appreciation covers. Especially when they collect them all together in a single issue. They showed a lot of thought by a variety of artists. Actually, I love all the theme variants, even if I don't buy them on comics, much more than the big name artist doing the same superhero team.

Why would you not want to buy it just cos everyone else from your state is buying it? Are you not proud of your state or?
Also, since when aren't flags photoshopped? Last few images of flags I've seen on merchandise are all photoshopped. On Mugs, T-shirts, Key chains, posters and whatever not. I can't remember when was the last time I saw a state flag or flag that was hand painted or drawn.

I loved the covers. But they didn't belong on the books they were pasted over. A cover has to actually SELL a book to the punters. And Wolverine fashioned into an art pastiche tells the prospective reader nothing, nor gives them a reason to pick up the book.

I see this as a sad attempt of marvel to mock DC. I really think the 52 different covers for Justice League of America is a really cool idea. If you live in new york you can get the new york flag and so on for the other states. Marvel needs to stop poking fun and all these variant covers with Deadpool are annoying. I can't believe a good character in the 90's has turned into a joke in such a short time.

I'm a military brat. I've little attachment to the state I currently live in. But if I did, I wouldn't buy something that looks that tacky, doesn't really represent, or looks exactly like all the other states.

Not variant covers. The most important thing for a variant is to be rare, followed by being 'cool' or pleasing to the eye. They aren't selling the story inside at all.

Guh? The whole point is he's been a joke. At least since he's been good, when Kelly took over. Unless you're pining for the Liefeld days...

Except they don't, because it's not like these are going on the racks. These are for people who know they are there and want to get them.

I disagree. And so, it seems, do Marvel.

Marvel has a habit of doing that sort of thing to DC, sometimes it's in good fun, sometimes they're kind of dick moves.
