I liked Avengers Academy, but it's a shame the Initiative was phased out in favor of it. They could have easily co-existed.

it's a pretty well known fact that mini series rarely ever sell all that well (unless there's some type of big name attached) & if the roles were reversed with the Avengers Academy kids starring in the book I'm reasonably certain the numbers would've been around the same. Having said all that I did remember getting a little upset to see that basically nobody bought the book thus proving that no matter how well ATI was written (& it was written well) the only reason it had the longevity it did was because it had Avengers in the title.
Oh well hopefully somebody who starred in ATI makes a semi meaningful appearance sometime soon.
I bought and loved Youth In Revolt (except the ending with Thor Girl and Cloud 9's new design), sadly much like Young Allies folk just didn't show up for the sales.

Now that the Avengers are finally expanding and handling more global threats, I think it would be the perfect time to ressurect the Initiative so that the teams could handle "localized" threats.
Launch a new THE INITIATIVE comic featuring different teams every arc, but keep each story somewhat connected to the other so that the book doesn't feel like a set of minis.
I'd also make the Dark Avengers a kind of "Shadow Initiative", a secret team tasked with doing the US government's dirty work. All the other teams would be acting in public and would also get government funding.
Top 3: Batman, Wonder Woman, X-force
Every concepts attached to Civil War was pretty much thrown away because Mark Millar, the creator was supposed the shepperd the "new World" by doing a few books himself. He came off with most of the concepts and new takes on books himself like The Order and Omega Flight and the new Ellis-written Thunderbolts and Heroes for Hire, etc...But he was too exausted and had to take a break from comics. Then most of the new books got cancelled because of poor sales. But really after a big moments like Spider-Man revealing identity and this been erased the moment that event ended in One More Day, you have to question how dedicated management was for what came out of Civil War. After all of this happened, I turned 100% cynical and stopped following any of their events since I knew the changes were artificial.
The 50 States Initiative was no doubt an interesting concept, I wish we would have seen more of the teams that would have emerged from it. Even the book "The Initiative" did not adress the initial idea since it was just one group of kids in training. I wish we would have seen more teams being created, especially veterans super-heroes being re-trained and re-outfited(maybe even renamed?) to fit a new Pro-Reg World. Personaly I would be excited to see a "What if ?" title dedicated to a post CW world focused exlusively on the creation of all the teams.

Marvel NOW! would have been the ideal place to restart the Initiative since we have an Avengers team larger than ever trying to face all the threats. But I think you need a big menace to be the sort of rallying cry for the Avengers to have to start an Initiative and come up with 50 teams. Would be interesting to see the villains up the ante and harm themselves and attack the heroes all over the place. And then the Avengers team from Marvel NOW! get defeated. A new big villain comes in and an emergency is called upon and multiple teams get created. More interesting the threat could be Avengers-made, like maybe a mistake made by the Illuminatti/New Avengers, maybe?
