Default Marvel comics: $2.99 monthlie issues VS trades (not HC)

I've read the first 5 issues of Hawkeye and I'm really torn between getting the monthlies or waiting for the trade. The same goes for FF. So I would like opinions on the matter. I'm asking on the Marvel forums because I want to take into consideration factors like paper quality specifically of Marvel $2.99 monthlies, if the binding of Marvel trades is good , in which format the art looks better etc. Hope it's OK I made this thread. Thanks in advance!!!

If you don't want Hawkeye to be canceled, I'd buy the monthly floppies.

FF, on the other hand, probably is going to sell well enough, and you could trade wait.

Marvel trades are generally of pretty good build. I rarely have a problem with them. I don't think the paper is all that different from the floppies, but I'm not for sure.

i think hawkeye itself.. more so then most marvel books, reads best in single issue. some books are better read when collected.. like hickmans main avenger book. i bet that thing has some real nice collected trades when the time is right

also as a 2.99 book.... im not sure what kind of savings you can expect in a trade format, those margins seem to be shrinking.

so for hawkeye.. id say buy the sucker in single issues.

i think most marvel trades have the same paper quality... which, to me, seems to be a better quality then whats in the average monthly (bi monthly, or weekly)

Thanks guys. I think I got what to do. I'll get the first trade and I'll be getting the issues starting from #6. This way I'll see which format is better for the particular book. If it's better in single issues, I'll just keep getting those. If it's better as a trade I'll just get vol.2 and I'll picking the trades from that point on. Anyways, I'll try to find #3, because it was great and I want to read it again for sure. Strong candidate for single issue of the year for me, along with Batman #13!

Art looks better in singles, not trades. Here's why. In singles, the pages and art are flat. In trades, the pages are curved, which creates curved art, strong glare, and big crease in the middle of the pages. Laying the art flat in singles erases that problem.

Looking back at my complete New Avengers run (Love!) I am glad they are all singles. It's great to get that magical feeling of seeing the art as its intended. Also with singles, the cover art looks better since it's spotlighted more. Only thing better is the complete digital run on a tablet, which you can get on Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited for $5.

    Singles.

That's my only problem with the trades. If the sinle issues didn't had ads, or had them at the end, like Image comics or the quality of the paper was a little better I would totally go with single issues. I think the colors look better in a trade compared to the single issue, because of the better paper.

I always recommend trades, no matter what. I've sampled a lot of Marvel NOW, but my wallet cannot handle it. So I'm gonna get the trades of most of the titles.
