    Default Batgirl #15 Preview/Discussion

    http://www.dccomics.com/galleries/batgirl-15-preview

Well considering everything that happened lately, this feels a bit weird to read it now.

Also, hey! Looks like there is a new colorist on this book.

Well I had to save the pics on my computer just so I could enlarge them so I could read them legibly. I liked how Batgirl called Joker a walking pile of vomit in her head, and how she realizes what Batman doesn't, that this man cannot be saved.

A great preview that once again merely underscores the confusing decision of new Batgirl editor Brian Cunningham in firing current writer Gail Simone off the book.

No Ed this month. Shame, but can't say I'm hugely surprised after his last BoP run.

It also confirms more of what I'm thinking Barbara's torture by Joker will really be about--this is really Joker's, and by extension, Gail's way of testing to see just how compassionate Babs really can be when under pressure.

GOOD observation, I hadn't thought of that to be honest. But now looking at the meta-context it seems kinda obvious.

Here's hoping the "new" Batgirl in two issues isn't by editorial edict going to turn into a dark Batman/Wolverine avenger type character, and maintains her sense of compassion for others, which is one of the main draws for me in this character. It is just so RARE to have a truly POSITIVE hero in comics anymore.

Looks good. No Ed, but Sampere seems pretty good here.

Tough on the supporting characters though, a maimed mother and a boy in a bear trap spring to mind, but I suppose that she needed someone to be compassionate for plotwise.

Last month was another great Batgirl issue that only made me want more. Bring on #15!

Bummer about Gail getting canned from the book.

It'll be interesting to see what impact, if any, the news about Gail's departure from this book has on sales.

Gail's removal is a bit of a head-scratcher, especially after "Batgirl" #14 being DC's #4 book for the month, even outselling "Detective" and "Batman & Robin"!

A part of me wonders if DC simply didn't like that Batgirl was starting to consistently outsell Wonder Woman, who is supposed to be DC's flagship female character property. It makes as much sense as any other theory at this point for such a strange stance to take on a high selling title that was breaking into the top tier of their books and Ms. Simone making more and more money hand over fist for them.
