And Rand still was overtly arrogant and went easy on them.

Considering all that, GRR might have some bias.
    Amazing you would think that.

    :)

See, this is why we don't simply take author opinion on the matter. Because authors are biased.

...and don't tend to focus so obsessively on feat comparison as this board does. :)

Gimli potentially killing the Mountain is amusing, yes. :)

It's easy to laugh-off Gimli as comic relief, because that's how the movies present him. Fact was, Book-Gimli was not only a thoughtful, poetic, knowledgable/philosophical fellow (with a jolly disposition at times and a good sense of humor), but he was one heck of a fighter.

He carved his way through numerous Orcs without suffering injury. He ran for days (on shorter legs) alongside Aragorn and Legolas, and kept up. He killed over fifty orcs, personally, beheading many of them with single strokes, in the battle of Helm's Deep. And he was with Aragorn when Aragorn chopped his way across the battlefield and back again at the Pelannor fields.

    Dude was an epic warrior.

Which was a...er...metaphor...for...the fellbeasts. Yes. <_<

...okay, I'm only defending him because I literally cannot imagine how anyone who even knows what a "Nazgul" is can seriously believe they have actual wings growing out of their backs.

It's particularly amusing given how much Tyrion gets laughed at by the characters for being 'a dwarf' in the books. That'll show 'em. :)

...granted, Gimli's an actual dwarf, rather than a really short human, but still. :P

Forty Two in Helms Deep, as I recall. Considering this was in pure melee, that's fairly impressive.

Only by 3rd Age standards. :P

Not that this is stopping him from cutting off the Mountain's legs or something.

In fairness, "wings" is sometimes used colloquially to mean "a flying means of transporation," like a car being referred to as "wheels."

I mean, I don't think this is really a mistake that someone who calls himself a fan would make.

Little Known Fact: Sauron invented Red Bull. That's why it tastes like an evil volcano mixed with proto-hobbit urine.

Well of course. Saying "Nazguls, they have wing," would just sound silly.
Fox Mr. Sinister (holding Rogue's chin): "So beautiful, yet so strong."

Fox Wolverine: "Well, I always did think I was kinda cute. Nice of you to mention it."
