Default Aragorn Elessar vs Jaime Lannister

I cannot seem to find the thread for this on this forum so I'll just make one.

Aragorn vs Jaime, book versions of both. Both at their strongest points in the book.

    1 vs 1 fight.

Jamie Lannister was a skilled but fairly grounded human swordsman. In the book even the most gifted warriors were in serious trouble when confronted by more than two skilled opponents at once, and largely relied on armor to tank their way through it. Aragorn waded into swarms of orcs and often came out unscathed. Game of Thrones characters are more closely aligned to real world human capabilities, while LOtR characters are much more classic mythic heroes, there is pretty big gap in feats there.

And even by the standards of his book Jamies doesn't have that many on screen one on one fights when he is still in peak condition. By the time he becomes a POV character he's in rough shape (though a fantastic character).

True, he did murk four guys with a wooden sword. And now I'm sad. Oh G.R.R.M why must you take everything good from me?

I'll just add that Aragorn's best feat I recall is charging directly into an opposing army at the head of his own army, staying at the head of that army while chopping his way across the field, stopping for a break to have a (brief) chat with Éomer, then hacking his way back across the field, the whole time (again) staying right in the thick of things.

Basically, he fights for hours. Without getting hurt.

He then runs a lot of errands that night and the next day. Probably a little tired, but if he is, nobody sees it in the books.

Dude is the scion of one of the ruling houses of Númenor, he's not exactly a normal human. :)

Forel is plenty fast and skilled by real world standards, but he's not exactly on the level of slaughtering entire groups of orcs by himself that guys Aragorn and Boromir are at.

No back up for Jaime? I thought there would be more of an argument :( I mean just a 1v1 fight, wouldn't it be down to their skill with the sword?

Sure, just noting that the ocassional people in that setting are not particularly aligned to real world capacity. Hell, the Faceless men, mild shapeshifting aside, can apparently sense, dodge and land blows while blind. At least in theory.

That as much low end magic as physicality, though the line is defiantly blurry. I see them as a cross between D&D Monks and Assassins. Ah man, I miss D&D. I need to get dorkier friends.

Aragorn isn't exactly Gandalf, but he's still somewhat superhuman. He's nearly ninety years old during the events of the LotR books.

GRR Martin's apparently thinks that Jaime has this in the bag.

Yes, yes, I know the rules. Thought people would be interested, nevertheless.

    And strength, endurance, etc.

As for skill, Aragorn being a guy who hacks his way back and forth across a battlefield in the thick of things for most of a day without suffering a wound or really getting seriously tired...I think it's a good skill feat.

    Somehow, not really a surprise.
