Default Ideas for villain origin story revisements...

I have a few ideas to revise some of the villains from batman, and their origins.

    1; Killer Croc
I never liked the idea that Croc suffered from Atavism. Avatism causes a person to be born with traits of an genetic ancestor (A person born with the elongated forehead of a Neanderthal, for example), and it makes no sense for Croc to have reptilian traits from the condition.

I would have him be the victim of a government super soldier program, designed to create human-animal hybrids. He escapes from the facility, but is injured doing so, and is found by a traveling circus. He is taken in by the circus and helps them by becoming part of their sideshow. He gets angry when customers are bullying one of the "freaks", and attacks them, killing them. He runs, with the help of the other "freaks", who are grateful for his help, and heads into the sewers. He lives in the sewers for several years, coming out to steal food and he attacks people who see him, causing legends to grow about the "monster" in the sewers of Gotham City.

    2; Bane
Now, don't get me wrong. I love Bane, and his current origin story, but I think there is always room for alternate origins, especially if they are done separately and do not interfere in current ones.

My idea for Bane is to make him a professional wrestler, turned criminal. He is still from Santa Prisca, but instead of being raised in a prison, escapes with him and bring him to America. They settle in Gotham City, he does very in school, but has to leave high school to get a job when his mother becomes sick. He works on the docks, but none of them pay enough, so begins to take part in illegal cage fights. A recruiter for Gotham City Championship Wrestling sees one of his fights and offers him a contract. The recruiter also works for the Falcone Crime Family, and is looking for wrestlers to work for the family. He agrees and begins to work as a wrestler, quickly becoming a star. He wins the GCCW Heavyweight Championship within a year, and completely undefeated, he becomes known as the most dominant force pro wrestling has ever seen.

About 3 years into his title reign, Bane is still on top. However, the Moroni Family's newest star, (name not thought of yet), is better than he is and easily defeats him. The Falcone Family, angry at Bane's loss cut ties with him, only letting him live because of the money he's made for them in the past. Unemployed, and missing the lifestyle that wrestling allowed him to have, Bane looks for ways to get back on top. He eventually is introduced to VENOM, a new form of steroid that was created as part of a failed supersoldier program, and begins using it. He wins back the world title, but eventually the effects of the drug wear off. He goes back to get more, but has to pay 5 times the amount he did before and can't afford it. The Maroni Family, who own the supply of VENON, offer him all he wants, as long as he works for them as an enforcer. He agrees and uses the VENON to get back on top in GCCW, but eventually the use of the drug is too much, and he kills another wrestler in a fit of rage during a match. He is banned from GCCW, but, still addicted to VENON, continues to work for the Maroni family.

True I don't like the avatism origin. But I don't like generic experimenting being the cause of his apperance. I would love to see him shown smarter then previous interpretations. Like a bane in DKR smart. Because batman facing a mindless hungry monster with no tactics is to easy, predictable, and boring when going up against Waylon. Also batman's villians are supposed to reflect him in some way. Croc does not. I would like to see that in his new origin.

When they first introduced him he was fairly intelligent. He was a mob boss, you know? He was in charge of people, and not just because he could threaten to eat them.

Hush took his intelligence down in favor of the more bestial form, but that that was explicitly the result of tampering.

And, his deformity was not, originally, specifically reptilian, just that he had rough skin and funny teeth, basically. The Croc bit wasn't literal or genetically-true, it was descriptive of a look.

I think your suggestion for Croc is a bit too generic, and that Bane as a pro-wrestler would take away a lot of his appeal and strength as a mater strategist. I'd like to see the Dark Knight Rises-origin and depiction of Bane brought into the comics, minus the birth-ties to Thalia and the League of Shadows. Have him rise out of the prison pit and then working his way up to become one of the worlds most feared mercenaries, who later gets hired by a rival business interest to Bruce Wayne but then betrays him and then acts out the Knightfall-saga (minus the Venom and with some added touches from DKR.) When he's beaten at the end of Knightfall he can change into the twisted social crusader who was hinted at in DKR, with a loyal army at his side.

As for Croc, I'd like to see him abandoned and spending maybe a few years in the Florida swamps as a young child. Hint that he had to do horrible things there to survive, more or less living his first few years as a wild animal, and have the source of his skin condition being ambigous (a rare genetical disease? some voodoo from his time in the swamps?). After that I'd basically keep his old origin, with him growing up on the street and different juvenile correction facilities where he's mercilessly bullied and beaten for his skin condition before he embraces his look and files his teeth down to points to look even more like a monster. He then combines low-level enforcer gigs with working in the backwater freakshow wrestling circuit, being hugely successful as "Killer Croc" but still fighting his more animalistic, predatory instincts that makes him an effective enforcer but takes him further away from humanity (a constant struggle of his character). When he accidentally lets loose and kills an opponent in the ring he's shunned by everyone again, making him turn wholly to a life of crime. He soon rises to Floridas mightiest crime boss due to his strength, ruthlessness and criminal know-how, but flees to Gotham City when the heat comes in on him. He's trying to repeat the same trick in USA's most corrupt and crime-ridden city, but comes in conflict with Batman and thereby sets up the status quo we all know.

I like the origins as they already are. With Croc, it was originally just hyperkeratosis, not connected to atavism, and Croc was very smart, brains and brawn. Be nice if his first app arc is collected together someday, it's nice a long Bronze age story. And Bane's origin is especially fine as it is, and now immortalized on the screne (minus the twist that it's actually Talia's origin).
DC discarded their history, and now has none. DC will always be in the shadows of their past work.
