Wishes to drop dead, you say?

Looks like things are going just according to plan.

Addendum: In many ways, the way things are now with Takeshi's mother are worse than they were before the supposed 'restore'. For one, plausible fixes to the issue (which- at a minimum- must include some resolution of her extreme fear and hatred of the yet unveiled entity her son's appearance reminds her of) are harder to plan now.

Unrelated Addendum: What does the phrase "Tern of Veritas" invoke within your- or anyone's- mind? How about the words 'Shield', 'Shadow', and 'Phantom'? What does "The Nine" signify to you? How about the "The Thirteen"? All of these- and more- will be relevant as soon as I get into a state of mind that let's me write about them.

Closing Addendum: But for now, it's almost morning where I live, and I'd like to get at least three hours of rest before having to introduce 40 machines to the new decade. I bid Arcadia and its pupils- and those who portray said pupils on the stage that is the Comic Book Rumbles sub-forum of the Comic Book Resources forums- adieu, at least for now.

    Thanks ET.

I have to agree with you here, I liked your character but you weren't really going for it that much. I think because you didn't have many connections with the rest of the cast maybe?

    Still, Jared is rad! :D

Oliver was tremendous fun but he was very unsustainable as an actual PC. He wouldn't just find it hard to work with the rest of the Alaphim, he would have actively started opposing them and doing the terrible things alluded to in the alternate timeline ending I wrote for him. So it was choice of either drastically rework his character, which I wasn't going to do because he was awesome, or force Cleric to let me go off and do my own thing which seemed kind of unfair in a game with a cast as large as Codex.

Also, at that point the narrative was really dragging so it seemed safest just to let him vanish.

Well, it was more fatigue than anything. Codex just didn't click together for me after a certain point.

Oh, and thanks for praising Jared, although I have no idea why he's any good.

Antagonistic PC Syndrome. Sometimes, the root cause is one character being too good for the rest. :P

I like him. Old Doctor, out to try and make a difference on the battlefield of life once more.

He's a fun guy and you write him well.

Or just Oliver being a very complicated kind of evil.

    I mean, well... he wasn't /evil/ exactly.

He was more some degree of psychopath.

I mean, if we look at the list of traits on Wiki: "shallow emotions (in particular reduced fear), stress tolerance, lacking empathy, coldheartedness, egocentricity, superficial charm, manipulativeness, irresponsibility, impulsivity, criminality, antisocial behaviors such as lacking guilt and living a parasitic lifestyle."

I'd give him... like... 9 out of the 11 listed traits there. Add in some self-destructive tendencies, immense intellectual greed, no morals and a perpetual sense of wanting to be challenged in everything he did and...yeah, a high functioning psychopath. That was Oliver in a nutshell.

And people think Elewa with his views on socialism and utilitarian philosophy sounds like a supervillain... Oliver actually was a supervillain. Legitimately. In the alternate timeline he conquered London and killed millions of people.

I guess it's because it was such a noticeable change from Elewa's previous behaviour, plus he had a goal that sounded pretty ridiculous given that there were more reasonable solutions to the whole problem.

But yes, now that you mention it, Oliver was an incredibly horrible person who had the luck of being too stylish for us to care about the psychopathy.

Indeed, I still don't see the supervillain thing myself though.

Extreme sure, maybe a touch crazy but not malignant or fully formed enough to be a supervillain's plan.

In his defence, and I can't believe I'm defending a mass-murderer, he didn't start out as /that/ awful. He was always a stylish and pretty evil man but he didn't completely see humans as mere toys at that point, in the early stages of the game he was slightly cruel and Machiavellian but he wasn't openly psychotic at that time. Giving him the powers of a god eventually caused him to go to a bad place.

It could, when lacking context, seem like a Saturday morning cartoon villain's plan. We know Elewa means well, it just sounds not that great given that the outside world is still kind of messed up and there are some freaky monstrosities out there.

Yeah, it changed him from bad to worse. But it seemed more inevitable than anything else, given how much power he got.

Yep... just went off the rails.

For those who are interested, here is how Alt. Timeline Oliver ended up.

That ladies and gents is a supervillain.

Have you an idea of how it died?

Resurrection dead tech is something I've been somewhat successful at.

You are fooling yourself. Characterwise, he started off completely drunk, hitting on every girl he met, and screaming 'Woo woo!"

Powerwise, Cap attempted to start him with an ability that took away your powers and then killed you. Cleric naysayed that, thank god. Then he tried to rewrite his anti-memory power to be a physical effect as soon as Sharp found out the max Perception bonus was to ignore mental effects. Gregory was screaming to be abused from the very start.

Neither fall into my definition of 'being cool at first.'

And lest this start turning into a Codex thread, I shall mention that I thought about slipping a wrap-up for Dexter into SHR3 that explained why he disappeared a third of the way in and was never mentioned again, but it was deemed infeasible. (Hint: it involved everyone's memories getting erased.)
