Irene Adler: “I would have you right here on this desk until you begged for mercy twice.”
Sherlock: “I’ve never begged for mercy in my life.”
Irene: “Twice.”
Here's irony...
Nigh a year before Diana's birth, a MAN is discovered in the mountains of Paradise Island. A wild man howling his demand to meet the Queen of the Amazons in combat!
Queen Hippolyta answers the challenge of this strange, savage warrior, cursed to wander the Earth, until bested in battle by a WOMAN. So, they BATTLE!!! Hippolyta defeats him, and they become lovers, ..only to find he is an amnesia-stricken Zeus! Upon learning he was condemned to wander the Earth by Hera, who stripped him of all memory of who he was, as an Olympian, Hippolyta abandons him, ..fearing reprisals from the Queen of the Gods!
This kind of fear for the uncertain fate of her nation makes very plausible Hippolyta's hiding the truth about Diana's birth.
So, Zeus and Hippolyta are brought together, because Hera's scheme to torment Zeus backfires and blows up in Hera's face! Yeah - I know that's probably not anywhere close to what Azzarello's planning, if he's planning anything. Just musing, here.
Again...annoyed by the unfinished feel of this series and all the little, dangling, unsettled details.
