Also give an emphasis to Canadian teams.

But, seriously, this drove me nuts, becuase I had plans on making an NHL thread this year, like usual.

I think the only hope the NHL has is if the players refuse to deal with Bettman and he gets replaced. Because eventually the owners will see the $$$ in the red they are losing and lose faith in him.

Man, I could not wait to see how my Oilers would have done this year. For a team on the rise, goal-tending was the only concern for me. I love what LA did last year. It was amazing to see them become the best team in the NHL. I was so eager to see what Jordan Staal was gonna do now that he was going to be a first line center. No longer being relegated to third line center because of Malkin and Crosby, Staal was ready to shine. Jordan Staal is one of the best centers in the NHL, but he didn't get the kind of spotlight he deserved.

I know it's probably too late, as I think he's hit the dreaded "Russian Wall", but I was hoping that Alexander Ovechkin would get back to his old self. I wanted to see Chicago thrive again. I wanted to see the great plays that Datsyuk was inevitably going to show us. I wanted to see the Canucks fall flat again.

I wanted the NHL this year. Now, I just hate them for being so greedy.

I wish that were the case but Bettman has 8 owners wrapped around his finger that can block any deal and those owners want to break the union again. I find it hard to believe that the owners of the Leafs, Rangers, and Red Wings are not up Bettman's ass to get a deal done. At the end of the day though, these teams are toys to the owners and despite the fact that they are taking losses on their teams my guess is that they will still come out ahead by writing off the losses as a capital loss.

I was listening to the FAN 590 today (all sports station here in Toronto) and they were trying to figure out the amount of tax revenue lost due to the lockout, from player salary to ticket sales to concession sales to products being sold to areands you are talking millions of dollars.

The players need to stay strong. The owners will eventually want to make money with their toys again. They may lose a season , but the next season after 1 year of losses is gonna be hurting. The players need to file a request that the only way they approve a new deal is if Bettman retires the next season. If the owners balk , the players need to say "Fine , we can play overseas if need be. Fuck you all."

It looks like the NHLPA are gonna follow the course of the NFLPA in their labor deal last year and possibly dissolve the union and file anti-trust lawsuits .

The NHL of course fired back trying to block the move.

Hockey can fight with Tennis, Golf, WNBA and Soccer on the lower levels. Big 3 all the way. But no I am not a big fan of Hockey.

Yeah, and to be honest, I think it's nice that European fans are getting to see some of the big stars.

I think a strictly Canadian Hockey League would do very well if the teams north of the border decided to split. Though that's unlikely to happen with the bureacratic and fisclly-ham-fisted owners calling the shots.
