So what happened since 1986 that made you worthy?
One of the things I liked best about Claremont's writing was the more or less timeless appeal of the stories, the way characters were fleshed out, and sufficient realism to balance out whatever outrageous things were happening in the story and ease suspension of disbelief. There are some other writers that have been able to do all of that just as well, but they're few and far between.
