Here's the thing I'm curious about. WHAT about the threat is so secret that T'challa feels he has to go the Illuminati? I mean, yes, colliding universes is big enough to get him to work with them, but he could do practically the same thing, without going to the Illuminati. He could have called Reed and / or the Avengers, and the only person he would be leaving out is Namor.

See above. The gems were "destroyed" in front of the Avengers. I can see that the Black Panther will know what the Avengers know, even if he wasn't there.
