While I'm still very excited for the series, I was a little disappointed in issue 1 of the Avengers. Basically, the team gets their ass handed to them in just a couple pages, and Krakoa sends Cyclops back - I mean the bad guys send Cap back - after a whipping, only to recruit more heroes for a rescue mission. Yeah, I know there's a lot of story left, but it was a quick read that didn't impress much, and just replayed too many story beats from Giant Sized X-men #1. For 3.99, I was hoping for the same oooomph that the Hulk, Thor and Uncanny Avengers #1s did.
My hopes are so high for this run.

I'm excited...but he's making New Avengers sound a bit like Old Defenders as to their relations to one another
I'm glad to hear Hickman is hyped about New Avengers. It's the book I've been looking forward to the most, as the Illuminati was one of the few Bendis books that I enjoyed. It's such a great dynamic, though I realize not everyone likes having characters at odds with each. Hickman gives folks the best of both worlds with set up.
Always loved the idea of the Illuminati since I have an affinity for nearly the entire cast, though I am a bit indifferent about Beast (as I was about Xavier) but I'm sure I'll warm up to him. I kinda wish I posed a New Avengers question during Hickman's Q&A. Bugger.
Current Pulls:
Iron Man, Aquaman, Avengers, Batman, Captain America, Captain Marvel, East of West, Journey into Mystery, New Avengers, Talon
So its sorted Wakanda & Atlantis r actually @ war.For him to call them together, something of a certain magnitude obviously happens that turns his world upside down. He's certainly not happy about having to call these guys together, especially considering one of the people he calls in is Namor," Hickman continued. "Namor attacked Wakanda in 'AvX', and Atlantis and Wakanda are now at war. So for him to weigh that war and the event and find in favor of the event, obviously this means we're talking about something that's pretty massive."
I think Avengers will be cool, I enjoyed the art and omniscient narration of the first issue, but I was bothered by the whole Hulk mind control thing for like the 100000000000 time. I mean Bendis is doing the same crap in a preview of Age of Ultron. At the least if you are going to do the whole mind control trope, have it be a different character or maybe even have the Hulk lulled into a euphoric state, as to be docile and not Hulk out, maybe give an opportunity for Banner to appear and share some dialogue. I did feel that it was a bit of lazy writing/cop out.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Hickman is WAY more hyped about New Avengers than the regular one?
They're throwing white women at Black Panther now. Absolutely villainous.
I know Kevin Nichols through a guy that knows a gal. Small world!
If nihilism didn't take some delight in destruction one might suspect nihilists were an unnaturally morbid sort.

I hope Cap gives Namor a shield to the face, when he gets out of hand.
The Illuminati better not step out of bounds
How will Hickman end his New Avengers ru? I'm guessing all-out war between the members, it will be awesome. Hard-headed BP, Namor and BB
