How do you feel about this book that is being discussed in multiple threads?

I am interested in a particular storyline from 10 years ago, but I want the opinion of random internet personalities to assure me that my interest in said storyline is worthwhile. This is because I am on the cusp of the fiscal cliff and one wrong purchase will send me to my financial downfall. Plus, I feel entitled only to read good things.
