Alice Eve looks like she could be a young Carol Marcus or the blonde from the Mitchell episode.

If he is Gary Mitchell, I'm not sure why he's leaping around doing kung fu, getting punched by Kirk and carrying what looked to be some kind of minigun. Or what he would want to "take revenge" upon the Earth for. But if he's Khan, or perhaps one of Khan's lieutenant, that all makes immediate sense.

The Japanese trailer has a little more footage at the end, with a very recognizable callback.

If I had to place odds on it I'd favor Mitchell, though.

The shot of Cumberbatch in a cell has me really hoping this isn't yet another "villain gets caught but that was All PART OF THE PLAN all along" twists. There's been enough of that in recent years.

If my theory holds true, the shot of maybe Mitchell would be very early on in the story before they tried to trap him/kill him at the mining colony. The revenge stuff would be afterwards. The "callback" almost has to be a red herring. It is too iconic for it to actually be what we think it is.

Oh, and the line in the international trailer about "what would you do for family" could have several connotations considering we have Carol Marcus on one hand and Kirks Enterprise crew as his family on the other.

To answer Vibranium's question, Carol Marcus was not in the original series, although in the early scripts for TWOK she was Janet Wallace, who appeared in that episode where the crew turns into elderly people.

However, in Where No Man Has Gone Before, there is unnamed mention of a blond scientist in a conversation between Kirk and Gary Mitchell, who Kirk 'almost married' and could be Carol.

    I actually Love it!
Well, apparently some people who claim to have 'sources' say Cumberbatch's character will ultimately be revealed to be Khan. But, the article I heard this from was on IGN... so take that with as much salt as you want.
Eh, Comics is a pretty cool guy...

Now we find out the truth behind Kirk, Spock and McCoy's unlikely survival rate. A diabolical alien entity has been sacrificing the random red-shirts, harnessing their lives to create the ARSE (Amalagated Red-Shirts Energies) Monster!

    1) The trailer shows that the villain has superhuman abilities.

    2) John Harrison was the name of one of the crew members from the episode "Space Seed", where Khan was found.

Therefore, deductive reasoning tells us that either Khan or one of his minions killed the real Harrison and took his place.

Regarding the "revenge" spoken of in the trailer, the entire reason Khan and company left Earth was because the populace rebelled against their rulership. It goes without saying they will want revenge against them, even if it is hundreds of years in the future.
