Decent. I can't say the Haunted Highwayman angle was the most intriguing or cool episode ... but certain moments really stood out as great ideas. The Stranger's response to 13's approach at the end? Gold. The Stranger has always been mysterious, and has always had that bit of an edge.

The Stranger's actual means of dealing with the villain? Choice. Better still - the spirit of Terrence of 1880's chastising of his descendant's silly "believing in ghosts". That moment was golden.

    The terrier was interesting, too.

Best part of all I think was when his neighbor asked him if he was a 'religious man' and the strained, totally sad look on his face.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I think I just realized that Stranger was the narrator of the Halloween issue of Action Comics, in addition to being the guest-star.

So that was his actual spirit? I was thinking it might be Spectre cause of the green tint and his total destruction of the Haunted Highwayman, but I'm not sure.

Really? That's crazy, because I seriously thought to myself yesterday that J.M. would do wonders on this book.

Where was DeMatteis announced? I only saw it mentioned on a thread in Bleeding Cool, no actual announcement.

    Great.

DeMatteis is well suited to the book. If I have one issue with his work, it's that he's really told the same basic story over all of his big, cosmic books -- Spectre, Silver Surfer, Thor, Dr. Fate, etc. But I do think he brings a nice sense of scale, and his interest in eastern philosophy has always contributed some interesting stuff to the mythology.

    Should be a good pairing.

    At least Didio is honest.

Another pretty decent issue, the writing is ok (this should improve with J.M. coming on with #6) I like how this book features obscure characters but, the art is still pretty bad imo, I don't understand why they don't just let brent do his thing with his normal inker he works with on the covers, anyway, I'm looking forward to Gene Ha, who will draw #6.
