A great first issue. I have to lol though at Hyperion. Why is he wearing a giant metal diaper?

I don't think the Girdle is that weird.

To me, it evokes something like a weightlifting belt (or a wrestling trophy belt, which is just a stylized weightlifting belt) combined with traditional superhero briefs.

Seems like an alright visual element for a powerhouse - especially a superman-inspired one - to have.

Oh it definitely looks fine especially at first glance. It was only when I was closely examining the team photo that it began to look funky

That's interesting; not to start an argument here, but I had exactly the opposite sensibility. Hickman's first 3 issues of FF proper (Solve Everything) will forever go down, for me, as one of the greatest Fantastic Four stories of all time, along with a handful of Kirby/Lee issues and arcs, the Dreaming Celestial Saga from Simonson, and Waid's start on Fantastic Four (which was all the more impressive for turning in a perfect FF story in a single issue). After that the quality became a bit more variable, at least to me.

His Dark Reign mini, though, WAS a slow start as he got a handle on things.

That is how I feel about Hickman's FF as well. "Solve Everything" is the best Fantastic Four story since Waid's first issue. Everything else just paled in comparison, and I eventually dropped it. I respect his long-term planning, but I find Hickman to be a dull read issue-to-issue. The one exception being Ultimates, which I felt was much more exciting then Avengers is so far.

Awesome. This is mostly set-up, but is beautiful, well-crafted set-up. I can't wait to see where Hickman takes this. Ex Nihilo specially looks like a very interesting villain.
