    Default Seven Soldiers Revival

DC seems to be letting P&G set up the characters associated with the Freedom Fighters for a revival of the group.

Now that DC is a 'new' universe, I would like to see a revival of the Seven Soldiers. Maybe following a similar path: introductory limited series for each character (although Green Arrow already has a series) and maybe a continuing 'master villain' in the background of each limited series leading to a 7S series down the line.

I would even take them on their own Earth or on Earth 2.

Vigilante - yep, use the cowboy version. Something about a cowboy themed hero operating in modern times that I like.
Shining Knight - Sir Justin. If one Earth one, time him in with Justine. If Roy Harper isn't used, maybe give him a sidekick, Squire.
Green Arrow & Roy Harper - Use the current versions or just Ollie without Speedy.
Crimson Avenger - either version, the Shadow-esque version or the red suited one.
Star Spangled Kid & Stripesy - A kid more intelligent than the adult working with him is one that I like.

I liked these characters in the JLA/JSA crossover. ANd I just finished reading all three Seven Soldiers Archives and think this could easily be tweaked to work in the current market.

But if people see "Seven Soldiers" these days, they be more likely to think:

    rather than

Plus, both Green Arrow and Stargirl (who basically replaced Star Spangled Kid) are due to be part of the coming Justice League of America in 2013.

And who was actually a member of the "Seven Soldiers of Victory" / "Laws Legionnaires" has been retconned a few times since CoIE. (At one point wasn't Alias the Spider put into that group in place of the no-longer existing Golden Age Green Arrow and Speedy?)

I would like to see the Seven soldiers on earth 2. Taking a page from the old Justice League Unlimited, as normal humans fighting menacing wonders, opposing the (soon to be) Justice Society.
No Green Arrow (or Roy Harper) on this earth, let's avoid from the moment doppelgangers.
    For me:
    Vigilante (cowboy version too)
Shining Knight (Sir Justin, of Course)
Star Spangled Kid (Sil) and Stripes(y)
Alias, The Spider (an archer is needed)
Crimson Avenger (more close to the shadow version)
the Whip (From Morrison mini, she had too little time to shine)
Part Kryptonian, Part Asgardian, all Genius.

I much prefer Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers, and were it me I'd try to re-create that group. Throw Shining Knight through time again to the present, bring in Frankenstein, introduce the Manhattan Guardian complete with superhero reporter schtick, Shilo Norman can be one of your reintroductions of the New Gods mythology, replace Zatanna with - I don't know, a defecting Accomplished Perfect Physician, Cameron Chase on loan from the DEO, and maybe Voodoo (who I personally know nothing about and have no interest in in this new continuity, but she serves an 'extra-terrestrial purpose', where as someone like Black Orchid covers a lot of the same mystical ground that our other members do).

Link them to "SHADE", making this "Seven Soldiers: Agents of SHADE", with Father Time 'running' the team. They act as a sort of Doom Patrol type team, dealing with all manner of weird, be it mystical, cosmic, mundane, or scientific. Rogue government superhuman weapons programs, alien invasions, incursions from other realities, fallen god and god artifacts, supervillains, mad magicians...all in a day's work.

    "Seven Soldiers: Agents of SHADE"

    Frankenstein's Monster
    Shining Knight
    Manhattan Guardian
    Mister Miracle (Shilo Norman)
    Accomplished Perfect Physician
    Cameron Chase
    Voodoo

As an added bonus it picks up a couple of canceled characters (Voodoo, Frankenstein), reintroduces a few others, and serves as a potential platform to reintroduce the New Gods, or at least some elements of the New gods. I also think it does a nice job of diversity.

    Well, I'd buy it anyway.

I find it very interesting that the original and Morrison's version of SSV are so dramatically different. The first is a team of unpowered heroes (with minor exceptions) and the latter a collection of Morrison weirdness.

I don't like teams that just ... are. I'd like to see a team have a purpose, a reason for being. The question, why can't we just do this in Justice League? has to be answered. I'm having a problem finding a reason to have a new version of the former because they're just seven or eight more costumes. I mean, the no powers angle could be worked on, but it is tough to make this a book wanted by more than a few fans. After all, even the originals were overshadowed by far by the JSA. Or we could go back to the what mystery men would you like to see and use the SSV as ideas. Say.... there's an idea.

The Morrison weirdness is getting more company with JLDark. When the series came out, it broke new ground, but a similar SSV book now would be another DC Dark series and my previous problem holds. Why couldn't another SSV story happen in JLDark?

"But the name is cool!" Yes, yes it is. And it also brings forward DC's history, something DC needs to exploit more now IMO. So, my imagination is down to using the name to maintain copyright. So what can i come up with? Make something as different from Morrison as his work was from the original Law's Legionnaires.

I think I brought forth a similar idea in the make a DC team thread, but I'd like to use seven (or eight) characters from different eras, dimensions, and worlds. I'd so much want to use characters lost to reboots. My pick for my seven:

Fury (Amazon daughter of the E2 Wonder Woman)
    Kent Shakespeare (5YL Legionnaire)
Oracle (An older ex-Congresswoman Barbara Gordon)
Katar and Shayera Hol (Thanagarian police officers and JLofA members)
Hex (Time lost old west adventurer)
Phantom Lady (Sandra Knight from Earth X)
Tall Marvel (Lieutenant Marvel from Earth S)

Just some fun characters. Find seven of your own.

Yes to the team being on E2.

No to Alias the Spider. I'd prefer him as a villain/anti-hero on E2.

TNT & Dan the Dyna-mite were the best replacements for golden age GA & Speedy.

They were not only strong and fast but also chemists!

They could easily concont smoke bombs, glue bombs, gas grenades and other bat-type equipment that could substitute for trick arrows.

Ok, but what purpouse would have this team? Because return to their world is ruled out right now. And the actual TPTB in DC are opposed to anything connected to the previous continuity.

The purpose (which I neglected to add, thanks for using my very words against me, you #^**$% [j/k]) would be to save worlds about to be lost, traveling to different times and dimensions to save them. A travelogue to the alternate worlds, or a sequel to Multiversity.

And I'm well aware there no way this is ever going to see the light of day. It's my like and idea, not a suggestion.

Go with Morrison's very original idea of turning the SSoV into a riff of the Avengers or Ultimates.

    Cap = Manhattan Guardian
    Iron Man = Warmaker-1
Hulk - Super Demon or Frankenstein
Thor = Shiloh Norman, the original Scott Free or even Zauriel
    Vision = Hourman the Android
    Scarlet Witch = the Enchantress
    Hawkeye = Alias the Spyder
    Hank Pym = the Atom

Naturally SHADE would be SHIELD and Father Time = Nick Fury.

Shouldn't you also include Pariah then?

I know I'd buy it with the right writer involved. The line-up?,I'm just not sure. What I am sure about is that I would like to see Morrison's SSV collected in an Absolute.
