The reviewer does seem overly excited, but I am still pumped for this issue. It'll be the first Avengers book I've gotten in a while.
Personally I find the amount of ambition and scope going into this series fascinating.Just look at the previews for issue one!Look at all the threats waiting for the team!
Gah as much of a fan I am of Cap,Thor and Hulk the team members that have me the most excited are the new additions!I love Cannonball since he is one of my favorite X-Men and while I dont usually like Sunspot I love it when he's paired up with Sam!Shang-Chi is another one I am very much looking forward to reading.I admit I havent read anything with the character except those obscure Shang-Chi/Julia Carpenter shipping threads but him being a martial artist is something that appeals to me.And of course the WTF membership of Hyperion,Smasher and Captain Universe is really interesting.
I also find it rather intersting in Hickman's subtle seed planting. The fact that he is using Marvel's version of Superman and the Legion make me think he may just be saying:"het DC!You want to read the greatest Superman/LoSH story ever?Check this out and hire me!".
Adults struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life when the answer is obvious to the smallest child: because it's not real. - Grant Morrison
Oh I know I should not give then further thought but that Thor comment was utterly pathetic. That's like Bendis writing an X-Men issue were the only character that talks and shows up is Cyclops were he does an in-depth character study and then have Cyclops have a one panel cameo in X-Factor and calling PAD's issue the superior Cyclpos appearence.S**t's not possible.
Oh no I have read plenty of their reviews but this one just takes it to a whole other level of stupidity.Another example is when they gave the Legacy relaunch a low score because it was too complex when if the writer had been Morrison or Ellis they would have said how hard they j**zed by the sheer complexity of it all.
There is no criticism; it's not reviewing anything, just hyping.
I like getting excited about things, but if I'm writing a review I'm going to give a critical analysis of what I'm reading in some respect, not just a string of lauds, cliche's, and contextless comparisons to other books (it's Giant Size X Men meets JLA, how, David?). I'm not saying that a 10/10 book is impossible or even improbable -- just that, from this review, I'm not convinced that Pepose has actually read it. There is certainly no evidence of it here.
I'm excited about this book. I'm optimistic about this book. I'm happy David Pepose is too. But I'd like a bit of substance in this so called review, that he is getting paid for.
