I don't want to pick on Animal Man. I hope he would become educated and less judgmental on transexual people. There is no need to make him uncomfortable, but just tell him that he shouldn't be scared of "grossed out" by transexual people. It's a lifestyle choice that is perfectly (or should be) acceptable.
As well meaning as it is, I don't even like it refered to as a "life-style choice", as that implies they just choose to be that way.
When all they actually choose is whether or not to be honest with people, you can see why many are afraid to be unfortunately.
But once again, it would definitely be an interesting roster choice. Just to see how the other ladies respond, you could get a fantastic positive story out of it.

You're right, I apologize for using the term "Life-Style Choice". But just saying, there are transexual people out there and they are real people. They shouldn't be judged for being another gender, but they should be judged for who they are.
I still just wished the media wouldn't portray them in such a negative light. Hangover 2 was very mean spirited towards them.
And I would not be surprised if they announced it during a Next Big Thing panel about Fearless Defenders. It would certainly give a popularity boost to the title.

Please don't feel like you have to get defensive. I get it, it's something you're not used to. Nobody is attacking you, and if they are, they are doing more damage than good.
Just know, there's nothing wrong with transgendered people and you should not feel afraid of them.
I'm Not Afraid of them It's More like I just don't want to make the mistake of dating one or getting too close if you know what i mean and defensive? look i can accept people from other countries and what not but trans well that's where i put my foot down
it just goes straight out the window for me nothing anyone says can make me cool with that

I am sorry you feel that way, but I think you have an exaggerated view. Transgender people are not out to prey on people. They aren't there to fool you or hurt you. I met a few, and they are some of the sweetest and confident people I have ever met.
All I am saying is that they don't exist to hurt people and you should probably keep an open mind when talking about them.
Not saying they exist to harm or trick people just saying you might make the foolish mistake yourself(with or without alcohol being involved)
i have my own opinions and the statement stands
it's just not something that you can just tell someone to accept and they go along with it....

Ok, so the book is going to have four regular characters: Val, Misty, Dani & Super secret girl yes? Or will there be more regular members added later on as well as guest stars?
Not all who wander are lost....
I'm...neutral, I suppose, on transgendered heroes...though I don't think Val's as clueless about the existence of more than straight male and female orientations on Midgard. She was teamed up with Thundra for a bit back then with Liberators, who came out with her preference for women and all, after Wasp joked around about it or something.
That said, I don't think I'd mind having one on the team. DC's current Shining Knight is another interesting team character in Demon Knights with similar issues, and I do rather like him/her. (Though, some of the running gags are getting a bit old, a year in.)
O Brian: After the first, there will be four/five identifiable team members, apparently, but more will be added as the comics issues build on (HOPEFULLY!). The aim is to rebuild the nine Valkyries of Asgard, so I guess the full roster will be 9 people.
back on topic i don't think the team needs a transgender because if this comic is gonna get recognition and critical acclaim to fame i don't want it to be because "Zomg! It's Got A Transgender Character On An All Female Team!" i want it to be because it's a good book with a nice premise
and all of that would be lost due to that one aspect...

What 'act against god'? You realize this is a mindset that is entirely informed by typical western society, right? I'm no crusader/activist, but I always found this line of thinking borderline ludicrous. Following that line of reasoning, all surgeries would be considered acts that go contrary to nature/god. All artificial drugs, for that matter. Why's it acceptable to get a boob job, but not to alter your physiology to fit your gender identification?
And in MU-verse, we have superheroes, and alternate gods and pantheons and all sorts of other sacrilegious realities that go 'against (Christian understanding of) god'. Hell, Valkyrie herself is a god, isn't she?
That's fine, no one's telling you to date/kiss a trans-person, but pushing that preference on a comic book because you're not personally comfortable with it is kind of iffy, no? Since you mentioned you weren't racist - what if I said what you said, but with 'black people' instead of 'transgender'? Do you think that'd be acceptable for me to say? If I said 'look I'm okay with people of different genders and what not but colored people that's where I draw the line'?
You realize that this is the EXACT argument against THIS girl book, right? People argue that it's just an all female team for the acclaim/shock value, ergo it's a political statement and people don't think it'll be good on the merit of its own story, but rather just a vehicle for marvel's all girl 'gimmick'.
Maybe it's not a gimmick? Maybe it's a storyline that hasn't really been explored properly in mainstream comics, and the writer would like to do so? Maybe it's an organic way to introduce a nuanced, fantastic character to the Marvel Universe, explore issues related to gender identification, and as a result tell the story of a subgroup of people that are so often misrepresented by the media and so frequently disparaged and irrationally hated by 'real life'?
Maybe, but we don't know, because it's not even confirmed whether the character is a transwoman or not. But the complaints against the IDEA (not even the reality) is kind of illuminating and indicative of why we need to eventually get one. Exposure is one of the only ways to combat the fear/'ick factor' that derives from not knowing/understanding them, because they're regular people too.
By the way, I'm not campaigning against you or anything, The Animal Man. I don't want you to feel as though I'm attacking you, or have something against you, or singling you out, so if I did make you feel uncomfortable, I do apologize. But this is a sensitive topic and some of the things you said do come off as unintentionally hurtful and offensive, so it's important for me to explain why it's not exactly kosher to express those opinions publicly.
I think it's important to campaign for equal rights/representation on all fronts. Not just in terms of race or gender.
