I was a little sad to see J'onn taken out of the founding roster, yeah. There were things that bothered me a lot more though. Booster Gold for one. Wally West for another. And really, Cyborg earned his place with the League. Its still a bit weird seeing a long standing Titan there, but Vic deserves his shot and I hope that before long he is considered A-list.

And I do miss the sweet, kind hearted J'onn who ate too many cookies and rolled his eyes at Booster and Beetle, and held his own next to the most powerful beings alive. But I am really curious about what he's up to now. J'onn might not be in the League, but I feel like more is being done with him now than has been for ages. Its all subplots and questions and conjecture at this point, but when things finally shake out and the Daemonite stuff comes to a boil, I am fairly sure J'onn will be at the heart of it.

Oh, and Marvel's dig at DC?

Who gives a damn? Name calling is for children, and I stopped paying attention to that sort of thing a long, long time ago.

Besides, what were they going to put on the cover? "Captain Marvel: Not as tough as Thor!" ???

And the Captain Marvel book is pretty decent. Not amazing, but solid.

Well, they didn't really have to put anything on the cover, but they chose to come up with a phrase that mimics an old description of the original "Captain Marvel". It's a little too similar to me to seem to be a coincidence, even if it ties in to a phrase for a group she belongs to.

qft. Why not put that tag line on Iron Man, Capt America, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, Spider-Man, etc books?
Comics were happier before the Internet turned writing superhero stories into fruitless attempts to impress/entertain a small group of ppl who appear to hate comics and their creators.

Which is much older than the Avengers being the 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes'. Marvel stuck it on her book simply as a way of grinding on the fact DC pretty much had given up the fight for the name, otherwise they would have taglined it on Thor's new book or somewhere other than Captain Marvel in particular.
It doesn't really matter, as Captain Marvel sells horribly. Chances are few have seen it.

I think "petty" is the word you're looking for. What Marvel is doing is petty.

How is it a dig? "Look, our Captain Marvel has a new tagline similar to the old one for your Captain Marvel! Buuuuuuuuuuuurn!" Yeah, I'm not seeing it. Probably because it's not a dig and you're all insane.

Jeezzz you people are getting your underwears tight over a tagline? It's just a tagline. Iron Man isn't invincible, Daredevil has fears. Marvel is not the one being petty here.

I think that one problem J'Onn had in the League in the old continuity is that he was too often made into a jobber, being beat up so that someone else (Superman, et al) could look better by defeating a threat that J'Onn could not face. (There were stories where J'Onn was used well and was interesting. However, there were times when I think we saw the character not used well at all.)

J'Onn is more mysterious and has a secret agenda. However, I did see him act concerned about his teammates in Stormwatch, even serving as a mentor to Jenny Quantum. I think that J'Onn not being on the Justice League founding roster does mean that writers will have to figure out how to use him and make him meaningful rather than being a Superman back up.

As for Cyborg, I am really not that much of a fan, although he does add some diversity to the Justice League line up. (I find J'Onn to be more interesting than Vic Stone, and I think it would have been more of a positive to have a character such as Steel or Hardware from the Milestone line -- who makes his own gear -- in place of Cyborg.)
