Different species in American Vampire

So I started picking up the trades a few weeks ago and I am currently on vol. 3. I'm enjoying it a ton and this is one of my favorites already. But one thing I've consistently been wondering is what are the different kinds of vampires? I know there's Carpathians (the Europeans I think), Americans, the Chiropterus, and now these new Asian ones. But they also mention ancient ones, and it's all just a little blurry. And they say that the Asian ones are unique because they infect with biting, right? Most infect with their blood? This is all just a little confusing and I'd appreciate a clearer picture of the different kinds of vampires.

Now I have a tough decision to make. Should I wait for the paperback to come out and match the rest of my volumes, or just get the hardcover and deal with it? I hate waiting.
