The problem with AvX is that even with a condensed schedule, Bendis' involvement meant it still felt like the number of issues could be halved and resulted in a tighter story. The man just doesn't understand pacing and never has however many cool ideas he comes up with. He'd be better off employed to work on the concept of a story before handing it off to more capable writers like a lot of films do.
The way I look at it is that with Star Wars, Lucas may have had a cool idea in a story about the origin of Vader but the fact he then went on to write the script as well meant it ended up as total rubbish. The best Star Wars film is Empire, which he didn't even write.
The story could have been as easily told as a 4-part crossover between Avengers and UXM without any tie ins or even a core mini and would have actually been better told and less intrusive on the titles.
I understand the business sense of events, but from a quality and storytelling perspective they cause more problems than they solve.

Those Larroca pages are stunning btw. Really looking forward to a "proper" X-Force with Cable at the helm, especially with artwork like that.

Age of Ultron looks horrible, Hitch looks like a muddy Alan Davis clone.
I feel gross after reading that. Felt both condescended to and like he was trying to sell me some miracle tonic all at once.
