Really? I thought he came off as an ineffectual douchebag in Ennis' Punisher run.
I know Frank sees him, and the interior monologue pins him as a decent guy but shortsighted, misguided, but even Frank's got respect for him. And, the narrative around them seems to just hammer home, to me, that Frank's also misguided and shortsighted.
Most likely the only Daredevil books Ennis read were the Miller ones, and given the crime noir elements of the book over the super-heroics, I can see why he would appreciate the character more than say, Wolverine.
Daredevil handled by Ennis was very well done.
