Was it part of his reboot origin originally to have his gear be Nth armor? Or did Rob Liefield just come a long and say screw it I'm doing whatever I want?

Nah, it wasn't originally part of DS's origin as Nth Metal didn't really become significant until Geoff Johns run on Hawkman.
I'm guessing that the use of Nth metal in DS was supposed to lead into a crossover with the Hawkman title (that I guess Rob was writing too ?).
Man Im really saddened Liefield butchered Deathstroke, I really am.
He was in my top 5 favorite characters. He completely ruined it for me.
Guess theres still the old books.
If there was one character that was in Leifeld's wheelhouse, I would have thought it'd be Deathstroke.
Maybe without all of the "Nu 52" confusion (how Deathstroke's kids fit into the new 5 year timeline and Slade's history with the Titans), he might have done a slightly better job.
True, maybe it wasnt completely his fault maybe it was editory.
But I really dont like the idea of Deathstroke using nth armor. He was never magical armor type of character or anything close to that. Maybe that was editory forced for a cross over.
Still poorly executed though, in both in terms of his writing and who evers idea it was to implement nth armor.
What's more before this new mess Hawkman and Deathstroke were bitter enemies. They were always trying to flat out kill each other all the time. In one story line Deathstroke had became immortal while Hawkman was being reincarnated all the time and they were STILL enemies in the far future. I didn't like the whole "Here, let me help you" mess. Don't even get me started on this Slade with Nth metal crap...
Yes. It was established in Kyle Higgins' run that Deathstroke was wearing armor composed of an Nth metal alloy (issue #4 if I remember right). Liefeld just picked up on it and decided that Slade / Hawkman encounter makes sense because of the Nth metal connection.
Nth metal isn't magical. It's more like a golden sentient metal.
